I was told that chickens get up and move around at night, so they should have all of the benefits and toys they have in the day time. I have a flock of eight chickens. Does anyone know if they really are active, or if thats a myth? Thanks a lot, and I'd love to know the website you got the info from too!

No, they are not unless they are disturbed by you or preditors or have artificial lighting, which is not good for them. They flop around helplessly in the dark and they need rest. They are not owls.
Just type in care of poultry in any search and you will find all sorts of site with good info. But as far as night time activities, I use my own experience.

A wonderful educational film on this would be a documentary called.....Chicken Run.
I know that in our hen house the all go to bed on time..around dark, but sometimes...in the middle of the night... I could swear that there is a 'gabby girls' meeting. They start to talking to each other until one of the quiet ones yells at the others to shut the beak up.
Chickens are fun!

No they sleep unless you bother them then the fall off the perches and get stupid. If you go quiety you can pick them up without waking them. Chickens wake at first light, roosters if they think it is light they crow.
Dont have a website I have a personal research facility in my back yard. Doubles up as a disposal unit for excess bird feed and veggie peels from the kitchen.

That would be a myth!! They will wake up very early but they sleep at night like humans. Its almost hard to wake them!!
