Depending on what kind of ticket you have you may be able to change it at no cost.
If you have paid the "full economy" fare with no discount then you can do whatever you please at no charge.

However, usually the cheapest fares are sold on a no changes no refunds basis, but some fare types will allow changes at a small supplement of say £25 or so, but best be quick because even at a supplement you can only change your time/date etc up to a certain amount of time before departure.
Best to check with British Airways to be sure. You never know, if you have a really good sob-story you might just get a nice reservations agent who is in a good mood and can by-pass it for you....I wouldn't hold my breath but it's worth a try.

You cannot get around the fuel surcharge or any fees that are added.
