There are some Christian Churches, but some have been converted to Islamic Mosques.

Some have been burned down by Irate Muslims, because someone falsly accused the Christians of something.

Recently in West Bank & Gaza Churches were burned because The Pope read a comment that wrote "Islam is won by the sword.".

Right now though new churches are rising because of new religious freedoms and the Spirit of God doing miracles in those areas. Recently a girl crippled from birth was healed and walked for the first time, among other miracles.

In most Islamic states, converting from Islam to any other religion [including Christianity] is against the law and is punishable by anything ranging from ostracism to capital punishment. As a result, there are no Christian churches permitted. Foreigners may be permitted to meet together and hold religious services, but if Muslims attend then it is very risky and is considered proselytization, which is usually also illegal.

In primarily Muslim countries which do not have an Islamic government, other religions may be officially tolerated, however, persecution still occurrs all too frequently.

In many Islamic countries there are Christian churches. There are not many and they get attacked quite a bit. This week the Pope said a few words in remembrance of a priest in Turkey who was recently murdered for his Christian faith. Also, you may remember at the beginning of the Afghanistan war two young American women were rescued from jail. They were awaiting sentencing (possible death sentence) for giving a Christian story book to a Muslim child (at the request of the child's parents). If you really want to test your faith, be a Christian in a Muslim country.

I live in a country in East Africa that has Islam as its official religion, but there is a Protestant and a Catholic church here, which are accepted by the government. They were established by the former colonizers before this country gained its independence, but have been allowed to remain to the present day.

Yes definitely. It's a common misconception that there are not.

There are christian churches in probably all of the African muslim countries and for definite in The Gambia and Tunisia (I've been to them!) There are also churches in Eastern European muslim countries, such as Serbia, Montenegro and Bosnia.

There are churches in many of the more tolerant muslim nations in the Middle East, for example in Palastine, Iraq, Oman, Lebanon, etc.

There are some in the more "moderate" Islamic nations, but in the hard core nations (Iran, Syria, etc) they are underground churches or meet secretly in homes for fear of persecution, torture and death.

Yes, and some very beautiful ones, too. Middle Eastern churches have a very beautiful architecture that looks part-Russian, part-Mosque, and part Western-cathedral.

Here are some magnificent Syrian churches:
