Hi Richard, great to heard of fellow Borrett's out there! I'm sure my dad will really happy to hear from you. I think our family originates from the Norfolk area too!

it not bad! more interestingly i am a member of the Borrett family and have done some work of my own on our tree.. my family is based in the North Hampshire area but comes originally from Norfolk. I will e-mail you through the website and share informtion.

I am an Interactive Media Design student!
I will first start with your design: Your design looks well balanced, since it's centered and with good margins. Although the picture to the left of the main page makes it look a little bit offset, because it is the only item outside the main "content" What is your purpose on that? Will you add more pictures? or more items to the -Right? As far as the color goes, its a good contrast since you are working with mainly black and white, the "melon" color goes well with that, it is not too aggressive and gives it a little bit more of a passive website.
The emphasis that you have used to focus your family in the picture IS GREAT, you have emphasized your family "ancestor" by constructing a focal area with a rectangular shape, having the strongest light value contrasting in the picture located in the dominant place, which is the main content in the homepage.
As far as the coding goes....I think you have done a pretty good start....I'd recommend more links and a few here and there animations. Just to kind of keep the viewers entertained, just remember - Don't put too many because you are not using your website as advertising. You should include some music as well.
Overall, I think you have made a good start...Practice will take you to your desired goal!

It's pretty good for your first family website. I am a web designer and it actually is an excellent start. The link at the bottom of the picture could be fixed, but besides that, it's not a bad attempt.
