And I'm not real sure on how to care for him. SUch as training and stuff. I also have a dog who's about four and I don't want him jealous. Come to think of it my cat isn't happy either. LOL Any tips on how to train him to potty outside?

The puppy has been wandering the streets for days. Today when I saw him he was bleeding, but not badly like he step on a rock or a thorn. If I see posters looking for him of course I'll call them.

Ha ha, I love your description of your cat. - what's it like at your house? :)
Congratulations on your new addition!
When I got my pup I had just read a book on dolphin training by Karen Pryor. It's called _Lads Before the Wind_ and though no specifically about dogs, it got me turned on to the idea of being able to train dogs w/o use of any punishments, choke collars, etc. Karen has a website with tons of info, books, toys, and kits to get you started.
Another great author I'd recommend to you is Ian Dunbar. He's written a great series of puppy books that will get you started right!
I just recently got a new pup. Though my 4-yr old dog is jealous of the attention she gets at times, it's never turned into a fight. Flop will try to interrupt training sessions I'm having with my new pup, so he gets crated with a stuffed Kong while I work with her.

For training in general, I suggest getting your puppy into a Puppy Kindergarten class as soon as possible (your pup will need to be up to date on all shots). You will learn a world of things on training your puppy from a good trainer.

Here is a link to a site that gives decent information on when a puppy first comes home.

The cat and dog will get used to each other eventually. Puppies have very small bladders. They need to be taken out when they wake up, after they eat, play, drink water before bed ect...basically like every 2 hours. Like someone said above don't scold them unless you catch them in the act and praise them generously when they do get it right. I used to give mine a small piece of treat when she got it right. NEVER rub their noses in it or hit them with a rolled up newspaper. You'll only create a fearful dog.

To train him to go outside you have to bring him outside after every meal and when he wakes up and finished playing. If you don't want him peeing on floor during night kennel training may help.

Take him outside. When he goes to the bathroom, praise him a lot! If he goes inside, don't clean it up, find him, and scold him; make sure he knows WHY he's being scolded. Also, if you catch him in the act of relieving himself, more scolding, and if you can, get him outside.
DX I've never had a puppy myself, though.
