My father had administrative issues cause him to have the name of his mother's former husband instead of his biological father's name; due to the fact that his mother was not yet divorced from her former husband. Now my father has passed away and I would like to have our family name corrected, but I don't want to leave my father out of the equation. Please help me discover the method.

Thanks

When my father became ill, he discussed his desire to change his name; it was the first time I heard anything about it. We had looked into the name change via internet and obtained fee schedules for various types of name change. My father was on a low income budget, and I am on disability; we were saving toward the price when he passed. I now have the fees and would like to complete the task.
I was able to have his biological father's name added to his headstone.

Go forward with the name change. I would. You are still honoring your father by taking on the name he was entitled to and should have had. He doesn't need a name change. Since he has already passed on it is too late since he would have needed to change it. However his tombstone can be changed to reflect the name he should have had.

When a person has died, one of the things (in fact the only thing) they take with them is their name. Why on Earth would you want to take that away? Let the dead rest in peace.

If it bothered him that much when he was alive he could have changed it, but it didnt so why are you stuck on it?

Leave him out of the equation, and please allow him to rest in peace.
