I am a Catholic and am proud of my faith but I am disheartened when the Church is put down because of a few mistakes of Priests. Not all priests are like that. Catholic people like all other denominations make mistakes but we are all abused because of a few individuals.
Please dont blame us for their mistakes. We didn't tell them to do it!

I do not know why Catholics are constantly put down, I am no longer Catholic just Christian, however all Catholics are not to blame because there are a few false ones in the faith. People are ignorant and perhaps do not realize their are many people out their that are bad, and the majority of them are NOT catholic. After all most children are molested by a family member, but I do not see these hypocrits attacking families, 1out of 3 children are molested 75 percent of them are molested by a family member. So the hypocrits need to take their senseless arguments else where. Many Catholics are infact God's Children LEAVE THE CATHOLICS ALONE!!!! every faith everywhere has its bad apples even the precious atheist are FAR PERFECT> He who is without sin may cast the first stone. God Bless Darling.

Thousands of cases of priestly pederasty in the US alone, most of which church officials knew about, concealed and dealt with through transfers, is only one small corner of the RCC. Fern Parish in Ireland had over a hundred cases by itself. It's an epidemic, and not a new one. And I am sorry, but the laity is at fault as well.

In 1975 I was to be married by a priest who had just been promoted to Monseignur who was the senior most priest in the parish and did all weddings in this church himself. My bride objected strongly because she said the Monseignur was creepy and hateful, and though we approached other priests, all declined because of the Monseignur's rank. Two weeks before the wedding we were informed one of the junior priests would be officiating because the Monseignur had sodomized the son of a deputy sheriff who had reported the incident to his father. The church explained it all a misunderstanding of the Monseignur counseling altar boys about masturbation, which devout folk like my mother-in-law swallowed hook, line and sinker. Meanwhile the DA began an investigation, the Monseignur left town for "spiritual counseling", and when the DA attempted to locate and charge the Monseignur with over 60 counts of molestation, she learned the church had called the Monseignur to missions overseas. Local parishioners simply didn't talk about it. Everyone pretended it had never happened and moved on, except the victims. This scenario is a commonplace in the RCC, and the fact that the people in the benches have simply bowed to the authority of their prelates and let this all pass without action or comment for centuries is a pretty damning insight into clergy and laity alike that tells me it's a sick organization and structure prone to abuse and rife with perverts.

The first thing is to remember charity above all! Be open and frank. Don't give them guesses for something that you really don't have an understanding of. Say so. They will have respect for you and will be more likely to listen if you only speak about the things that you know. Do not be afraid to say you'll have to do some research and would be glad to get back with them later (but that means you must mean that and actually do the research). There are many resources to learn (it's a lifelong process if you consider God is infinite). Ask them questions back like, why was it acceptable for the Reformers to remove books from the Old Testament? God bless. Feel free to ask for more ideas.

Hi there.

I am a former Catholic here. I agree with you that the congregation, the people, should not be put down by others' actions.

I am against the system. I feel that the church practices a lot of tradition rather than Bible truths.

Confession to the priest is not biblical. Confessing to one another is.

Oil or sprinkle or baby baptism is not biblical. Baptism by immersion is, just like Christ was. Plus, people should choose to be baptized. A baby cannot choose for him/herself, but you can definitely dedicated your child or children to God.

Jesus Christ Himself worshiped on the Sabbath, yet the Catholics worship on Sunday.

Don't call anyone Father except God, yet what do you call your priests? It is definitely okay to call your biological dad "father", but no one else.

What about vain repetitions in prayers, etc. etc.

God Bless.

Issues such as that have lessened my respect for the Church as an organization.

However, I recognize that the vast majority of Catholics as individuals are not accountable for the actions of a few wayward priests. My respect for them has not been affected by these circumstances.

The Catholic Church claims to be the sole "moral authority" in the world. Yet its ranking members have actively harbored and protected men who have done the unspeakable, who have harmed the children of faithful families. The tiff over the pedophiles in the Church is more than just the actions of the criminals themselves, but what the Church did to cover it up afterwards: Up to and including threats of excommunication of families dared to speak to secular authorities. THIS is the source of the outrage.

Sorry to say it's way more than just "a few priests". ... Maybe if the church took more of an interest in protecting the innocent instead of its members i would still be a catholic.

Noone should make fun of anyone elses relgion, and certainly noone should put down the Catholics because of a priest that did sin. But, the catholic church has covered for these priests and allowed it to go on and in anyones book that is wrong. They must accept responsability for that. No church is perfect, but the leadership should be doing all God says to do, and hiding this stuff is not Godly behaviour at all. But, ppl should express that to you in a kind way, and not a hateful way. but truth is truth.
Most of us Christians dont recognize the Catholic church as Christian for other reasons. To list ony a few...
The pope claims to offer absolution, total forgiveness of God. and he has no rights to do that. The Bible says only God can do that. Also, your church believes you can pray to other ppl, other than God, such as saints.. This is not Biblical. A Christian must follow only the teaching of the Bible or they go into error. If another beliefs supports the Bible, great. Thre are just several things like that that cause many Christians to love the catholics, but not recognize them as a Christian church. just see them as another false religion. I am sure you have many truths in your religon. I do have many catholic friends and we discuss these tings. BUt, unless something can be proved by the Bible alone, its not of God. Those are Gods words, not mine. ANd either we believe all of the Bible or we dont. We cant just pick what we want to believe. Thanks for the questions tho, and pppl do need to be more sensitive to catholics in that we cant hold you all accountable for what someone else does. God doesnt even do that. I hope I answered you question without offending you. That isnt my desire at all. WE are called to love everyone, adn as a Christian, I do love Catholics, but anything that is not in Gods word, I believe we reject. Study on for yourself.

I don't fall into the CNN trap of sensationalism. I am concerned, though, that Jesus said that only thru HIM can you reach the Father, yet saints are prayed to... and that For most of its life, Rome has decreed that people need to have the bible read to them and it was done in a language they did not understand. The temple was thrown down and the curtain torn, symbolic for the access each has to God, no longer needing a priest to do it for them, but Rome still practices this. Otherwise, I have Catholic friends that are just fine..

It is not about a "few" priests. The catholic church started a retreat outside Santa Fe New Mexico, more than 70 years ago, for priests who molest children. They have know about the problem for 7 decades and have done little or nothing to stop it. It is not the few that we are concerned about it is the 800 children that were molested in the Boston diocese where the bishop new about it and did nothing. that is the problem
