My beloved and I talked about this yesterday, how diet and food can be made to take the place of controlling religion in basically secular peoples' lives. They feel "sinful" if they eat too much, "virtuous" if they don't. Foods are labeled "guilt-free" or "sinful." (We won't buy those just on principle.) They've been "bad" if they had a cookie too many. Etc., etc.

Does anyone else notice this?

Do you think some people just really need to be controlled, whether through religion or diet or something else?

Oh, and this article will make you think, too.

Dieting usually becomes a religion, and like all religious practices it will get you no where. It will leave you frustrated and disappointed. Incidentally, Christianity is not religion----it is a personal relationship with God. If you need to get help with weight control then turn the matter over to God. He made you and only he can correct your failed dietary habits. I know---I have had a weight problem all my life and it has led to diabetes. i don't think that there is a non-fatal condition that is more of a pain in the neck to deal with, short of missing a limb or blindness, than diabetes, and it can lead to blindness and missing limbs.

Some people do need control. People need different types of control. The Iraqis needed Saddam. Some people aren't capable of living without being told how.

Wow! Good question! I was thinking something along the lines of that today that without their religion a lot of people could not be who they are today.

Dieting will make you live longer.

Religion (following God's principles of harmony) can make you live forever.

You are correct we always need leaders, laws, rules and so on. I dont think being anorexic is a good solution.
