Sometimes. Depends. If we make eye contact and are pausing long enough (like looking in a store window or something), I'll usually say "hello" (or if it's in the morning, I prefer "good morning). I like at least smiling and nodding.

If they say hello first, I'll definitely say hello back.

Exception: When I'm walking in Mid-town Manhattan, which I do a couple times a week, the streets are so darned crowded that if I said "hello" to everyone, I'd never get very far.

Depends upon where I am. Some places it's not polite to talk to people you don't know. Some places it's impolite to not at least acknowledge the presence of others with a nod or smile.

Generally, I will say "hi" or smile and nod.

I usually try my best to at least smile and make eye contact, if I do not say hello. You never know how the smallest gesture can brighten up someones day.

Well usually I smile. If I get a return smile I might say hello, hi or just nod.

Yep unless the eye contact lasts for to long and then I start feeling uncomfortable like the other person wants to start a fight and then I look away

I usually try to say something to make them smile. You never know what type of day that person is having....It could be the worst day of there life and your smile or greeting could mean the world to them.

Only if they say hello to me. I usually just smile if we happen to make eye contact.

If its crowded, no. If its just me and the person, usually I'll at least make some sort of head nod/smile.
