My friend is moving in 3 weeks and I want to throw her a going away party with like 30+ people at the park. The park has picnic tables and a overhang. I'm not sure what we should do, were in high school, so no freezetag. But should we get a cake and chips? It's not really a celebration...

Well, it's a bittersweet celebration. It's a celebration in that you wish the person well in their future wherever they may be headed. I just hosted a going away dinner for a friend and we held it at Buca de Beppo's for the family-style dining. We gave her a small gift and reminisced a bit about funny times. Be sure someone takes a lot of photos and you can have these put in an album to send your friend. A cake is entirely appropriate. You might put on it, "We'll miss you!!!" You might want to have somebody with a camcorder go around at the party and ask every body to say "bye" and a few words or something funny to your friend. Give them the tape and they can watch it when they are feeling kind of alone and missing everyone.

i think it's really just an opportunity to hang out together and socialize during the last of your time together......and i have to say i think your friend is very fortunate to have some-one throw her a going away party, she will feel really special!!
i wouldn't worry too much about having activities or games, the older you get the less you need that stuff-its more about just hanging out and talking.....i would have food tho....and if you're going to the park why doni't you guys have a big bbq??
you could take a camera and take pictues of everyone there and have each person write a little going away message in a notebook or scrapbook and then when you get the pics developed you can add the pics to the scrapbook/notebook (it would also be a good idea to have evryone write their phone numbers/email addresses also, so the friend who's leaving can keep in touch)

Get some pizzas, or a bagel snadwich tray, and some sodas and bottled water - the food's not as important as all of you being together to say goodbye to a friend. Get a bunch of those disposable cameras and take lots of pictures, then put a scrapbook together for your friend. She won't remember - or care - what the food was, but those pictures and memories will be a real treasure to her.
