Let me get this right for you D Wade! You need a passport (US too) if you fly into another country! A visa also , depending on the country! A green card does NOT donate US citizenship in any form or fashion! All green card holders are NOT US citizens! The green card gives you authorization to both work and reside within the US only! The permanent resident will be required to have a valid passport from his or her original homeland (country of citizenship). Only until the permanent resident is naturalized, then can he or she have a US passport!! Remember, the passport ( doesn't matter which country) is the undisputed form of identification worldwide! The green card (resident visa) proves the US is your homeland, but will not get you onto an international flight!!

A "green card" is merely a USA visa. A visa permitting the holder to seek employment. A passport would be needed from their country of origin in order to qualify for a resident visa. A passport from their home country would be necessary to travel.

Do not listen to them, they do not know what they are talking about. You do NOT need a passport to travel if you have a Permanent Resident Card. The U.S. has to let you back in the country, plus you cannot get a U.S. passport, only U.S. Citizens can. The Green Card allows you to travel back in the U.S., now if you want to enter a different country you might need a visa, it all depends on the country; to enter Mexico you dont though.

Yes....you will still need a passport to come back into the States and you will need to to visit other countries as well. Green card is only for citizenship....not for traveling....passport shows citizenship but is used to identify the traveler.
