sorry this isnt me...i think its the parents just flat out not caring or they would rather be the kids friend than a parent and have to disipline them. I think it starts when they are young and by the time they are teens they are too much to deal with and the parents dont know what to do...
So to all of you who have kids, going to have kids soon,,,,disipline them when they are little and teach them right from wrong ....dont let them watch the simpsons or family guy with you (or anything along those lines)
Dont let them play video games for more than 15 min a day...make them go outside and play...it makes them be more creative anyways
But i totally agree with you on this one!

Yelling - This is one of those cyclic things that people do. If they were raised in a household that had a lot of yelling, that's what they consider normal and they tolerate it from their own children. They just don't have any other tactics when it comes to dealing with their kids when they act up in public.
Violent games/movies - Parents who aren't educated about the effects that violent images can have on young and adolescent children, tend to think of these things as "just a game" or "just a movie", not real-life. They don't understand a young child's inability to let go of those violent images and seperate it from every day behavior.

I do not condone my child talking back to me, much less yelling back at me in my own home, much less public. I did however take my almost 13 year old daughter to see a horror movie because it's her personality. She doesn't mimic these movies and she realizes they are for entertainment purposes only. She has a 3.8 point grade point average...without ever bringing homework home, is excelling in every area of her life, and is very mature for her age. I don't see a problem with this, but I am sure I will get plenty of thumbs down as others do...to each his own!

I know parents like that and I don't get it either, my mom would have killed me if I even looked like I wanted to raise my voice at her.
And as for the movies and television shows I mean why is it that parents are too lazy to use the parental controls on the television they beg and plead for a way to block this kind of thing from their kids, and when they get it they don't use it and still want to blame celebrities for thier kids short comings.

As a child that was protected from violent sources of media until I was legal age (18), I can say that my parents' overzealous censorship damaged me a lot more than any horror movie would have. All of my mates were bored of violence by age 14 and I was obsessed with gore until I was 25.

That's definitely not me, but I do know parents like that.
The reason kids yell back at their parents is probably because those kids have never been smacked.
The reason parents buy their kids those violent movies and games is because they could care less what their children are being exposed to.
Pure laziness--that's what it is.

My son turned 6 today, and we let him play Mortal Combat on the Game Cube. It's a little violent, but I don't think it's anything he can't handle. I don't agree with parents allowing all the things you said in your question, but I think to a certain extent, I want them exposed a little. That way when they get into school and they meet all the other little bad kids that teach them curse words, and all other kinda things, I would rather him not be totally shocked about it, but to already have some kind of knowledge about it. I want them to be educated about it. Knowledge is power!

Horror movies are fine if a kid can handle it. Most every 11 or 12 year old I know watches them. At that age, it's just entertainment..they know its not real.
