I can not remember the name, but I shaved my legs for the 1st time this summer and I used a cream that stays on for like 3 minutes or so, then you remove the hair with a BLADELESS razor (I bought it at Target). The hair comes right off! Considering you are trying to eliminate nicks, avoiding a blade all together may be best.

Make sure your legs aren't cold. If my legs have goosebumps, I constantly shave off a few. It really hurts, it takes longer to heal than a regular nick, and it's more obvious if I'm wearing a dress or a skirt without nylons. Just make sure you're warm enough :) And like everyone else said, use shaving cream and a sharp razor blade.

Start shaving five minutes earlier, or go to Wal-Mart. There is a product for men, but women can use it, too, and it's called a Nick Stick. I think that's the name of it anyway, but it does a great job. It stops bleeding quickly, and has an antibiotic ointment in it to prevent infection. It's in the HBA department, in the shaving products aisle.

I just learned this after 25 years of nicks and cuts. Hold the razor very far down the handle, near the blade itself. This gives you more control and better pressure. Also, use a good emollient cream such as Skintimate.

Skintimate shave gel works really well. If you're in a hurry, Intuition razors have the shaving cream built in, but I hear they don't work as well as regular razors and cream.

Buy a good razor. When you are getting nicked it is time to change the blades.
Also breathe a little and be calm while shaving. Take care.

Don't use a disposable razor more than three times and use inexpensive hair conditioner to shave. It may sound weird, but it leaves your skin silky smooth!

Wash your legs with soap. Leave the soap on then shave your legs. This acts as a barrier.
