Well, my story is pretty boring.
The doctor came in and told the anesthesiologist to give me the anesthesia. He injected me. After about 20 seconds the doctor said that I should start to feel it about then. I responded. "Yep, your ri...."
I woke up in the next room about an hour later and don't remember a thing about the procedure (Of course, I half expect to start having recurring nightmares about alien abductors who take me back to the ship to be probed....).

Im 25 & had one a few months back. Honestly I was more worried about the prep than the actual proecdure, I dont do well with having to drink nasty things...I cant even drink cough syrup.
Luckily the prep I had which was 2 zelnorm pills, 2 small bottles of magnesium citrate (kinda had a bad after taste but not too bad) & then i had to mix up 64 ounces of Mirilax powder with some kool-aid. they said to use gatorade or water, and it couldnt be anything red, blue, or green. So i mixed it with lemonade flavor & you cannot taste the stuff at all.
Once your sh*t is clear you can stop drinking, even if its not all gone. The only bad thing was, it was a 2 day prep so i was on clear liquids the first day & half of the second. But that wasnt too bad either.
As for the actual procedure, some people say that they are awake enough to see the pictures on the monitor & feel it inside, but no pain. Me on the other hand, I think I was probably mid sentence when it hit me...I was out like a light! The next thing I knew I was in recovery & they told me I could get dressed & go home. I didnt have any pain at all afterwards & didnt remember anything. I actually talked to a coworker ( i work @ the hospital ) in my room & didnt know it til the next day when he said something, even then I didnt remember.
Hope ALL this was helpful...as long as it was. Dont worry, its quick & easy!
Oh & just remeber to pat not wipe! lol or u will have a raw a**! ha!
GOOD LUCK!

I had my first colonoscopy in February this year. It was quite an experience for me - everyone is different. Some people it doesn't bother, others (like myself) had several issues regarding the procedure. I am glad mine is over....but I will be better prepared for my next one in 3 years. They did find a precancerous polyp in my colon which sort of freaked me out. So I am thankful that I did have my colonoscopy. I did write a paper about my entire experience if you're interested in reading it. If not, that's fine....I will be happy to answer any specific questions you might have. My e-mail is dfcoley@yahoo.com.

The story that I believe you will hear most often and exactly what I experienced is that the exam itself is absolutely no problem. Chances are you will be under during the exam and will experience hardly a memory. It is the PREP that is not much fun. The day/night before when you have to totally evacuate your colon. A lot of trips to the bathroom. Do it, it may save your life.

It's not bad after they "relax" you with nice drugs. It's ythe waiting for the results, which are at the end of the proceedure, that gets you, especially if the 1st one was positive, and you went through bowle cancer, but survived.
