In Buddhism, a buddha (Sanskrit बुद्ध) is any being who has become fully awakened (enlightened), has permanently overcome greed, hate, and ignorance, and has achieved complete liberation from suffering. Buddhists consider enlightenment, also called nirvana the highest form of happiness.

That is, in fact, the whole purpose of life: to realize our true nature (enlightenment). Realizing this is becoming the Buddha. This is the same exact experience in all religions and no religion: christianity has it with Meister Eckhart and St John of the Cross, Sufism has it with Rumi, etc.

According to the definition that u provided, then I think it is possible, but the work towards there will be hard.

Btw, just for clarity, it is true that Nirvana/Nibbana is considered as the highest form of happiness(Nibbana.m parama.m sukkha.m), but the Buddha did not refer happiness to the feeling of happiness(from the senses) when he talked about this, but he explained it that the greatest happiness is when the mind is freed from greed, hatred and delusion.

One more thing, thanx for the question.. It made me reflect on my belief in enlightenment, I mean, why exactly I think that there is(or could be) such thing as enlightenment.

Technically no, but an arahant yes. Both are enlighten but the difference is that Buddha gained enlightenment all by his own effort whereas arahants gained enlightenment by following the path shown by the Buddha.

Me? I think the probablity is low. But the possibility is there. I have come to believe that enlightenment is a temporary state of mental well-being.

Actually, Nirvana (nibana in pali) isn't a form of happiness. It actually means to extinguish. It meant to extinguish a fever, in it's typical usage 2500 years ago. It refers to the extinguishment of attachment to desires.

As to your main question, Yes, I hope so. I'm working toward it.
