Growing up around Oldsmobiles (my dad was an Olds dealer engine tech for a number of years) it is hard to stay quiet on this question. Yes, the High Output 307 would have a more hefty cam, a bit higher compression, etc. than the regular, stock 307. The Monte Carlo SS would have a higher output (read more horsepower) than the regular stock engine. So basically, you are comparing a ''hot rod'' Chevrolet to a ''hot rod'' Oldsmobile. As far as value is concerned, while you saw more Monte Carlos, the Oldsmobile usually held up in value more. So from that standpoint, as well as others, it kind of depends on what YOU like better. As far as reliability is concerned, the Oldsmobile engine has always held up better than the Chevrolet. But here is the thing with me. The original 4-4-2 back in '64 had a different meaning than that of 20 or so years later. The SS always stood for the same thing regardless of time. Chevrolet determined that the SS stood for Super Sport. I could tell you what the second S really stands for, but you would probably report me for abuse !lol! Anyway, in '64 the first 4-4-2 stood for 4 speed, 4 bbl carburetor, and dual exhaust. Then in '65, it then stood for 400 (cubic inch engine) 4 speed, dual exhaust. Then 20 or so years later, it was basically an options package with a little hotter engine and a decal package. If Olds had used something like a word or letter designation to signify their hotter cars, and continued with it like Chevrolet did (as in the SS) it would not be so dissapointing for us Olds lovers. But to know the original meaning of 4-4-2, and see what it eventually became is a huge let down. So let me get down off my soapbox and just say once again, it is whatever YOU like. YOU are the one that is going to be shelling out the money. You need to be happy with whatever you get, whichever one it may be.

Monte carlo may be faster considering it comes wit supercharger but the g35 is way better. If u really want to get a good car wait for the g37 to come out in August it will only cost maybe 5k more but has a higher potential as it will have 1 of the largest engines ever on a Japenese car. I agree wit everyone else THE G35 all the way

Value means nothing. If you like the look of the car better, go with it.
