As some of you know my darling Baggy (Bagheera) had to be put to sleep last wednesday after he suffered kidney failure. I am on my own and my home is so empty without him... I have been offered this week a 16 year old persian and a 9 week old ginger kitten but I couldnt take either. All my animals have come to me...2 horses and 2 cats...should I wait until someone needs me (ie turns up on the doorstep or through the RSPCA), or do I get another cos my home is just a house without an animal?

Oh, I'm sorry, I expect you feel so lost & empty & are missing Baggy all the time. I know how much I would miss mine if they weren't here.

It would be great to think that you could wait for what turns up, needing you. However, I think, that if I were you, I'd go out to my nearest shelter & see who's there waiting for a new home.

Whoever is there, will never replace Baggy - but they will be a distraction & a comfort - a new personality to get to love & know. And they need you, just as much as you need them. You'll also be doing something pro-active, will have something to look forward to & making some little cats Christmas very special.

And, should one turn up on your doorstep, then even better, you'll have two bundles of fur at once.

Don't wait too long & have a wonderful Christmas.

Hello Baggy I too lost my darling pet 10 weeks ago, I cried for a week,I had booked a holiday so that took the pain away for awhile, but the house was so empty on my return. I visited the local rescue for cats to see if I could find another to love but I couldn't choose. I have been persuaded to go without one now as they are a tie.I am not happy but unlike you I have to share my home with another. I am now putting my time into helping out with the rescued cats instead. So I can at least get to stroke them.

I'm sorry to hear about Baggy. I lost my dog Hansolo on November 13 after he had a dental procedure. I wasn't expecting it at all. Every little thing he did kept coming to my mind. I do foster work and that week a friend of mine showed me a new dog that needed a foster home. I went ahead and got her because I knew some new life in the house would help me through my grief. Maybe you could foster some cats until you feel ready to choose one for your own. Many rescue places are thrilled to have new fosters. It will help you in the transition, and you will be helping an animal in need.

Don't get another animal until you are ready. You will have to accept the new pet's personality instead of comparing it to Baggy's. And if you can't do that then you aren't ready yet. If you miss having your pets company ask the RSPCA if you can volunteer some time to play with the animals waiting for good homes. Maybe one will pick you out while you are there.

The cats that I have had usually "knocked" on the door. Cats are very strange about that. They choose us when we thought we chose them.

Many years ago, my beloved rottweiler died, I was devastated, everything around reminded me of her. I was so distraught it was nine years before I felt able to love another animal they way I loved her.Once I did, I regretted the years I had lost from having no pet. I have not been without since. My dogs are a great part of my life, and even although I have family, my life would not be complete without my pet. You sound as though you are exactly the same. Go and get another cat a.s.a.p. I say `another` because the new one will not be a replacement, it will be another to love. I am so sorry that you are hurting, go and get another cat, from the re;homing centre, they need your love and care. xx

A stray animal makes the best pet I think. If you are really that lonely then go and adopt a pet.But remember no animal will replace Baggy.Try getting a different breed or color.I know how you feel.My favorite cat died 12 years ago and I to this day wish she was with me.

I'm sorry about your cat. Don't get a cat until your ready because if the time is not right then you won't love the new cat. When the time is right the right cat will find you. That is how I've gotten all my pets.

I would get another one now. All the cats at the rescue centres are waiting for someone nice and caring like you to adopt them.

I'm so sorry about your cat, it's really heartbreaking when you lose a loving pet. If you get one now, you will still love him/her like you did your lost cat, and you wont be lonely. Good luck and hope you get a new friend soon.
