Since I have been having trouble locating a job with benefits, I have not been able to continue my medication. It is the anti-depression medication manufactured by Smith GlaxoKline. My life is actually miserable without it. Is there any way to acquire paxil at a reduced rate or even for free in the state of Florida where I live? I would do almost anything to have my life back.

Yes, contact Smith GlaxoKline and apply to them for assistance. Most drug companies will give medications free or reduced price to those in need who cannot afford it. Also you could apply through department of human resources for medical assistance. If you qualify you will get free or reduced price for prescription medications and medical care.

Paxil is chemically similar to flouxetine, (prozac), both are SSRI's fluoxetine can be purchased in Generic form for until 10 dollars for 30 day script.

I've found that many people are prescribed anti-depressants would benefit more from psycho-therapy or support groups and the therapeutic benefits would be greater then meds. If you started taking meds without a psychiatrist through a general practioner consider seeing a psychiatrist for an eval. It's good to evaluate your medication use periodically and sometimes you may be at a point where medication is not providing the desired effect.

There are a few things that I can suggest. First, you should not go off the pills, i know how hard that is when you are strapped for cash. I know where I live Red Cross and some of the churches will help with perscriptions. Talk to your doctor, some of the drug manufaturers have assistance programs to help people stay on their pills, also you could talk to someone at your local Department of Human Services. They may have an assistance program also. Good Luck!

Sometimes the drug companies will help you. You need to find out where to go to get help. most communities have a free clinic or some kind of service for people who can't afford health care. Also, most have low or no cost psychiatric care. look in your phone book and call a psychiatric doc office and they will tell you who in town will take you.
