Purgatory exists.
"Jesus' spirit upon leaving his body did not immediately go to heaven. Jesus said to the robber that he and the man would be in paradise that day (Lk. 23: 43). "Paradise" is not here used for heaven. Jesus said after his resurrection and before his ascension that he had not gone to heaven (Jn. 20: 17). Paradise is actually a section or compartment of hades where the saved go and await judgment. hades and paradise are connected (Acts 2: 31, Lk. 23: 41)."

Purgatory? Most likely, but not for the reason the Catholic doctrine includes it. What a sham! Did your child die? Oh, well we don't know for sure that he will go to Heaven. Your son is in Purgatory or limbo until you do something to save his soul.
I tell you what, we have a special deal for you. You get all your relatives and friends together and come and pay homage to the priest, the bishop, the cardinal, and the pope. Kiss all their rings and call the Pope perfect. Now just do one more thing, give a special financial gift to your local church, and to the Pope at the Vatican, and lo and beyold ............ If you do all these things you will have rescued your dead son from purgatory and he will get to go to Heaven.
Feed all the above information into a computer and ask the computer for an evaluation of the logic. The answer will be in one word "Rubish".
Now, if you want to know how purgatory really makes sense, it would be a place where you would finally decide if you want to be harmonious and live with the harmony-loving folks of Heaven.
Or, if you want to be disharmonious and live on Planet HD, a planet just as nice as Heaven, but the people are those who chose disharmony.
Why the discrimination? Not as a punishment, but as way of quarantining a person away from the harmony-loving people of Heaven.

Hell yes - purgatory no. I believe (just a personal thought) that "purgatory" is a pre Christ's death on the cross idea. The Bible states that while Jesus was in the grave He preached to the spirits in prison (1 Peter 3:19). Jesus also spoke of Lazarus and the rich man (Luke 16) - Lazarus went to Abraham's bosum, the rich man to hell. Lazarus (nor any of the saints) couldn't go to heaven yet because Jesus hadn't paid the price yet (now when a Christian dies they go straight to the Lord - 2 Corinthian 5:8). The rich man didn't go to the final place of torment - hell - because the day of judgment hasn't happened yet. Perhaps the idea of purgatory comes from this? However, we can never pay for our own sins, otherwise Christ wouldn't of had to die.
Just a few thoughts.

is the pope in charge of the afterlife. does it even say anything about purgatory in the Bible?
The doctrine of the Nicolaitans was mentioned in the Apocalypse of John Revelation chapter 2. It is a symbolic name of a group of people that represents the hierarchy of a ruling class over the rest of the people, developing a pecking order of fleshly leadership. Jesus hates this and warns the people to repent. It is not the question of the ministries but rather in the separation of them into a hierarchy over the people. This very idea was taken over by the Protestants with their own corruption of leadership roles and coverings. The Church of Ephesus was commended for hating the deeds of the Nicolaitans. The wrong separation of the clergy from the laity is a great evil in God's sight and He hates the lust for religious power over others. There is an ungodly spiritual authority in the Church today, which is nothing more than the prideful spirit of control, manipulation, domination and intimidation and a rebellion of the rightful authority of God.

NO!!!. This was a mediaeval tool to keep the people in line. The 'lake of fire' etc. mentioned in Revelation is an allegory. If you are not saved, you go into the ground and rot. A lost chance, for ever. What did Jesus teach? Have a look at the story of Lazarus. Nothing there about souls going to heaven or hell, or purgatory. This is not Biblical teaching.

Jesus told the man on the cross, "Today, you will be with me in paradise." bible says, "man is appointed once to die and after this comes judgement."
There is NO purgatory in the bible. What sins did a person do that Jesus' sacrifice wasn't enough for?
There is no pope in the bible either. Peter did not have that title and he was married and sinned.
Should we do away with the title of Pope?

If you believe God's Word the Bible, you should know that there is no purgatory. There is a heaven for all that believe that the Lord Jesus Christ died for their sins. There is a hell for all that reject His payment for their sins. The pope has no power to do away with anything He put his dress on just like all women. He is a sinner just like we are. Romans 5: 12 Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned: He is not the mediator between God and man the Lord Jesus Christ is the one between us and God. 1 Timothy 2: 5 For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;

The Purgatory is another false doctrine promoted by Roman Catholics called indulgences. The Bible teaches nothing in regards to purgatory. It is not even a Biblical term. Well,The Catholic Church itself ADMITS that it is their own invention.

The pope cannot "due away with it" he can merely state his point of view on the subject. The only people that can "due away" with purgatory are Jesus and God. So, all of the souls that are there would either remain or they would go to heaven.
