i want to build a software similar to favorites, only with more detail... can anyone give me any leads on this?

The shortcuts are stored in a folder on your harddrive they are a file type of "internet shortcut" and merely references the web url.

There are many ways you can duplicate this depending on what you want to do. If you are enhancing the features as your question described, you'll need to handle this differently than Internet Explorer.

Keep in mind as well if your project is going to be cross platform a Linux system is different than a Macintosh and Windows.... (you know where that road goes)

The favorites allow you to have shortcuts to the sites you visit the most so that you don't have to complete a search and/or continually type in the site's address.
