I am currently paying £25 per day (8am -6pm) to a childminder for my toddler. I am on maternity leave at present but when I go back to work after xmas I need someone who can look after the toddler & the baby. ( My current childminder can't look after them both due to numbers).
My friend only pays £30 per day for her toddler & baby which sounds reasonable to me.
Is my current childminder ripping me off or is it cheaper for 2?

Hi!

You don't say whereabouts in the UK you are, but I think your friend has got a really good deal. £30 per day for the care of two children is excellent value for money.

Forgive me, but I don't think you should talk about being ripped off by your current childminder - we are talking about someone caring for your most treasured possession here - your child. How much would YOU charge someone for doing what is essentially these days one of the most under-valued jobs going?

£25 per day is the going rate at the moment, and if you can get two children cared for for less than £50 per day and you will be very lucky.

Best of luck!

An expensive center in my town will run $200 a week, Which is about 100gbp a week I think, and that is for 1 child. Private care is usually a little less, but I still think anything less than $5 an hour (almost 10 gpb) which is our minnimum wage, would be hard to find. You have to decide what this persons care is worth to you. I would expect if you have them in a center or a group setting, then she is going to charge pretty close to the same for a second child, but someone you just hire to watch your two (and no other) may actually be cheaper!
Try Craigslist.org

select your nearest city, then childcare.
Even if you don't find someone, you will at least get an idea of what the going rate is in your area!

I charge £25 per day per child and would not give a discount if the second child was a baby. I provide food, but nappies, formula, & wipes are provided by the parents. I pay to go to playgroup twice a week and bounce & rhyme once a week. I live in Glasgow so it is more expensive since it's a metropolitan area. and think I am reasonable as I have not had a price increase in 2 years, whereas most nurseries charge a lot more than I do. Hope that helps & congrats.

Edit: Please keep in mind when people say they pay $100 a week for their childcare they are not in a large city. Childcare in big cities costs money! If they are in a large city, I'd be very careful as you tend to get what you pay for. JMO

I currently pay £33.25 a day for 8.30am til 6pm for my one son. So £30 per day seems extremely cheap! I know that my childminder isnt the cheapest in my area at £3.50 an hour but on average in Oxfordshire where I am I think about £3per hour was about average for one child but sometimes they give slight discounts for the second!

No she isn't ripping you off at all.
Most private cleaners get 8 to 10 pounds an hour, these are your children you are talking about and you are paying £2.50 an hour, that is well below a minimum wage. Have a look at private nurseries and be grateful.

Isn't 25 in pounds about $50 US? I think it is but I'm not for sure. If it is, that's very expensive. Most people only pay about $50-$100 a week and you're paying that much a day.
