I need to get my medicine with my debt card which I run like a credit card. I will not have money on it until Friday though. However, in the meantime my ear is bugging the crap out of me. Is there anyway for me to charge it without any money being on my card but not have to worry about going over? It gets put on there at 1:30 am tomorrow night/Friday morning.

If you try and get the medicine before the money is in your account, your debit card will either be declined or you will receive an overdraft fee for not having the money in the bank.

Pay with a check if you can. It will take at least a day for a check to clear. You're paycheck will be deposited by the time it clears.

Other options would be to use a true Credit Card (not linked to your bank account), or try one of those Payday loan type places.

Depending on your bank your debit card might be no problem (I've noticed some things I buy with my debit card clear right away but others take a few days) -- or you might get stuck with overdraft fees. I'd avoid using it if I were you.

Good Luck!

Charges on debit card go thru immediately, so don't think so. But this is an idea. At my bank, you can set up what is called "overdraft protection." It is a preset amount, like $200.00. If you try to use your card, or if you write a check and there is not enough in the account, they cover it. Then on your monthly statement it shows up as a "loan." You can pay the total on that or pay $25.00 each month on it. You won't bounce anything and get charged for insufficient funds.

This all depends on how they have their card services set up. Sometimes they are set up to clear immediately, and sometimes it can take several days after you authorize the purchase for it to show up on your account. I work at a bank and with most places it does take a few days, but you won't know unless you've bought something there before and you know how long they take to clear your payments. Some go the next day, some 3 days, 5 days, etc. You just won't know, and if it clears bedore you get your direct deposit, you'll get slapped with an overdraft charge. The store won't take a check? That would give you enough time to let it clear before Friday...

Could you write a check instead? You won't be able to use your credit/debit card until you have funds in the account.

Try it anyway. The worst thing that will happen is that they will say "no" and then you can just walk away and try again tomorrow.

At least try....

Sure, if it goes through you will have to pay an overdraft fee, but at least you have your meds!

Good Luck!

sometimes if they will ask you if it's credit or debit you have to choose credit and it will take longer. Other than that you can borrow money from someone.
