O/D is for reducing engine RPMS and incresing fuel economy. If it was on the light should remain solidly on for the whole time, it should not flash. My thought is that if it is flashing that there is something with the O/D. Probably not in the transmission but in the ECU it is probably thinking there is something wrong with it. What I would do is I would go through the owners manual and if that didn't help me I would call your dealership and I would talk to a mechanic.
Good Luck

'O/D' is the over-drive. You have the option of engaged or disengaged. Call the dealership and ask for the 'service department', they should be willing to tell you why it's flashing. Most vehicles that have such a switch will only illuminate when engaged. I have never, not yet anyway, had one flash as you discribed.
I've had other things 'flash' me, and that was cool.

You have accidentally clicked the "overdrive" button on your auto transmission to "off." click the button again (on the gear shift) and the light will go out. You want overdrive to be on all the time.

over drive, you turned it off some time or another, hit the button to turn it back on.
it makes the engine rpm lower so to help save fuel when you're in high gear

It means you've disengaged the over drive (o/d)

It's an extra final gear used for cruising on freeways, helps to reduce noise and increase mpg
