I don't know of a particular medicine but your allergist should be able to give you something to block the symptoms (which is what allergy medicines do.) What you can do is try to lessen your exposure to them. Get an air purifer (a good one) for your bedroom. Change your bedding often. Vacuum with a hepa filter, dust with something like a swiffer that will trap the dust. Also try to identifly the very beginning of your symptoms and take an anithistimine then. As a fellow allergy sufferer I know exactly what your going through.

How do you know you are allergic? A positive skin test to dust mite is only truly associated with symptoms about 50% of the time. Do you have nasal or asthmatic symptoms? These are the symptoms most commonly associated with dust mite allergy.

Zyrtec is pretty effective for nasal symptoms however the best treatment is nasal steroids. these are more effective than any antihistamine. Please avoid benadryl if possible. It causes both sedation and performance impairment which contributes to automobile accidents.

With regard to avoidance measures - vacuuming is generally inneffective (they hold on to the carpet fibers) and air filters don't work (dust mite particles don't float in the air for very long as opposed to mold spores and other allergens).

Removing bedroom carpet, whole house dehumidification, and dust mite covers on the bed are the best studied methods.

You can use benedryl for the symptoms but if they really are bothering you, buy some lice bed spray. It also says on the bottle that it kills dust mites. Spray your bed, pillows and couch (es). You can also get Allercare pillow cases or bed covers that reduce dust and dust mites. Good Luck!
