If you do not think it is a sin to use Dr. Pepper to wash down a bag of Doritos, and have some M&Ms for dessert...but you think it is a sin to get a tattoo you are just a plain out hypocrite. But the tattoo is basically harmless, not like the junk food that is full of MSG.
I have heard a lot of christians say it is a sin to get a tattoo because it disgraces the holy spirit's temple (thy body).

Lets just say that the amount of junk is comparable to a normal size dinner so it is not gluttony.

it's not that which goes into the body that defiles a man.
Lev 19:28 Ye shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor print any marks upon you: I [am] the LORD.
national geographic did a study on this and believe that this was the act of people cutting themselves and rumbing dirt in it to make scares. they were doing this for the dead. they would also ink so that it would leave tattoo marks for the dead. the verses before and after refer to worship of anything else other than God and so therefore i assume that is what this verse is refering to also. just like when it says do not trim the corners of your beard. what some of the pagans were doing is trimming their hair and beards a certain way to try to harness power from the stars (wierd i know).
if i read correctly Jesus told people to follow the law in a non legalistic way. so follow the spirit of the law which is worshiping God alone. i don't think it's what you do but why you do it. God will judge the heart right
we are to be good stuarts of the things we have including our health so don't eat to much candy.

Too much of ANY kind of food is a sin. It's called "gluttony":..
My Canon (priest/boss) is a Desert Storm Vet. He has plenty of tattoos. I'm pretty sure of his personal holiness.
I worry much more about babies going to bed hungry and people living on the street when it gets cold to worry about what people eat or what they choose to put on their bodies as decoration.

Gluttony is a well documented sin. Damaging your body shows disrespect for the one who made it. Tattooing and piercing (in Bible times) were methods of branding a slave. It told everyone you were owned.

I think it's disrespectful to deface the body or to not eat the proper foods. It anything harms the body or changes the apperance of the body as in major tatooing, I think it's just disrespectful not necessarily a sin. By the way, glutony is a sin. So, too much of anything, is sinful.

MMMMM yummy dr. pepper and doritos! If thats a sin then people are worshipping the wrong God! Life is about taking things in moderation not about sin, sin is just a dumb word.

When people tell me it's in the Bible not to get tattoos, I ask them how many doves they've sacrificed for their sins, and why the have cut their beard off. It's in Leviticus.
