It was rumoured after Calzaghe beat Jeff Lacy he challenged Toney to train down, lose the weight and fight him for his old IBF title, but didn't get much of a response as realistically it was never gonna happen. It would be a good fight though, at super middleweight who wins?

Toney will never slim down, he can't stop eating. The back of his neck looks like a package of hot dogs. Joe has no business in the ring with the likes of James, Joe's last outing was a prime example of that. Joe should be fighting the likes of Peter Manfredo, who Joe should beat and possibly knockout, but he nor his promoter should make the mistake in thinking that Peter is the beast America has to offer. They picked Manfredo because he has some name recognition coming from "The Contender" and he can't break a egg.

Frank Warren is so starved for a fighter from England to be hailed as "Great" first it was Hamed than Joe and Ricky Hatton and now that those guys are exposed as nothing more than good fighters, fighting selected opponents he's pushing Khan. The English papers will be filled with how Joe defeated the American Peter Manfredo as if it gives Joe some sort of credibility.

If a Toney vs Calzaghe fight ever took place, Joe wouldn't last 5 rounds, they are on completely different levels. As much as I can't stand Toney, I must admit he by far the way better fighter.

Thanks for the question Baz.

If it was the Toney that ko'd Nunn and trained hard, I think Toney wins. He has superb boxing skills, is a great defensive fighter and more power than Calzaghe. I think it would be a great fight, but the edge in power and overall skills goes to Toney and is what allows him to win decision.

Toney at this point couldn't push himself away from the dinner table if his life depended on it. James can get away without being in top shape because he is fighting in a weak division. Even at age 40 Toney, let's say he does get down to 168 would give Calzaghe a boxing lesson. That's how great he was at middle and super middle.

Joe was an incredible fighter but James was also pretty good..the match would be a great battle with Joe boxing ability vs James power...but talking more realistic...James was too fat to fight again on super middleweight for me...
