When you start all the other "big girl" stuff like potty training and using real cups instead of sippy cups. Stuff like that. Usually they'll start trying to climb out of their crib at that age and that's always a good time to switch over. It can be dangerous for them to climb out of their crib which is why switching over is good at that point.

Usualy the signs that a child is ready for a "big girl" bed is when they can go to be without a fuss or If they are climbing out of their crib. usually some kids are ready between the agse 2 or three.
My advice is that if you want to get her used to the fact that she has to trasition to a big girl bed i would buy the bed and place it in her room. Let her get used to it. Let her pretend sleeping in it during the day but let her know that her bed is only to sleep in. If she plays in it, then bedtime will be a lot harder. Once she gets used to the idea of that bed place the new bed in the spot of her old crib and place the crib in the place where the new bed once was.
That way things arent just thrown at her and she has time to get used to the fact that change is not bad or scary. Most kids like to know waht is comeing next so if you change it without letting her adjust it might just end up failing.
Good Luck

All kids are different...my two oldest slept in toddler beds until they were about 3 1/2...but my youngest chose the big bed just after his second birthday. Try putting the big bed in her room along with the bed she sleeps in now (something either low enough for her to get on by herself, or with a step-stool) and let her make the choice herself. If she decides she likes the big bed, leave the little one in there for about a month to be sure..then take it out.
If you're making the transition from a crib to a toddler bed, take her to the store and let her pick out her very own bed set, dress the new bed, and she'll probably sleep in it (just for the novelty). We used baby gates at his door to make sure he got the idea that he was to stay in his room.
And remember, even a small transition like switching beds is a big deal to little kids, so give it time :)

Take her 'big girl bed' shopping with you and see if she shows any interest in it or not. If she does then it would be time for her to graduate to the 'big girl' bed. Also, buy some rails for the sides; this will prevent her from falling out until she get used of the new bed. Let her pick out a really cute comforter and then she will enjoy it more.

When mom and dad decide to let the kid grow up a little and she does not pee the bed...you could put a mattress cover over the mattress...I am sorry but to many parents keep the kids in the plastic beds until they are teens.
