I always allow my kitten to drink from my water glass- he prefers it although he has fresh water always available, and I never let him drink squash/ coke etc, but are either of us likely to infect each other with anything?

I don't think it's a good thing to share your water with your kitten. If your cat happens to have any parasites or other harmful things there's a chance you could get it. If your cat likes drinking from a glass (as my two kitties seem to) just set out a seperate water glass for him or her, and be sure to refill it often.

I don't think it is a good idea. You could get parasites if your kitten has them. (or pass them to your kitten, if you have them! :)
I'm not a veterinarian so I don't pretend to know what other risks you may be taking.
I LOVE animals!! I have 4 dogs, 8 cats (outside) 6 sugar gliders and 20 parrots and while I love each and every one of them and am very affectionate with them- I don't share a plate/glass with them or let them lick me on the mouth. :)
But that is just my personal opinion on the subject. (Not to say by any means that what you are doing is wrong!)
It sounds like you love your cat very much!!
Take care

Drink some and give him/her the rest. I give my cat fresh water, daily. The dog, too. But some times the cat drinks from the dog's bowl, and the dog drink from the cat's bowl. I give my cat a little milk, in his own bowl, once and awhile. But daily, he wants a little milk from my breakfast bowl. I leave a little for him, in it. But to actualy share where you drink some, the cat drinks some and you drink some, isn't recommended. I'm glad you don't let him drink pop. how does one drink squash?

Its always a good idea to keep the animal at a distance. You are certainly going to get some health issues if you continue doing that...I would not do that even my kitten is super clean...as when they drink their sliva comes out...and they usually lick almost everything...yukk
