I ran cross country in the fall and plan to run track in the spring. I don't have easy access to a gym, it's gonna get really cold outside, and I have a VERY small house, so I don't plan on doing a lot of running. How can I keep myself moving and tone my upper legs?

Hi,
I highly recommend the 5BX (men) and XBX (women) exercise plans. Very effective, quick, and no gear needed. Here's a site where you can download it if you wish. Another exercise I like a lot is jumping rope. Best of luck!

~EDIT~
Oops, I forgot to mention cross-country skiing. My all-time favorite exercise, but not practical in all environments, plus there's an investment required for equipment.

Aerobics were created by Dr Cooper as a training program for the army. It is basically a fitness program that involves jumping the rope. You can look for the book: "Aerobics for women". You really don't need much space for that.

Can you cycle? Or maybe try one of those "treadmill" things for bikes that you can do in the house -- you put a regular bike on a set of fixed rollers and ride indoors. Jump rope. You can go out in the back yard and jump rope.
