Puppy Primer by Patricia McConnell and Positive Puppy Training Works by Joel Walton are both good training books. Ian Dunbar has a series of videos on puppy training, too. All should be available at www.dogwise.com.
Also, check with your local humane society for low-cost dog training classes.

First you should call a vet and ask about shots, also most puppies can't be with other dogs or people for just a while. You should feed it puppy food, any brand will do. Washing the dog is easy all you gotta do is wash it up to at least 2 times a month, but really just when the dog is dirty. For training you should take it to obediance school. P.S. DO NOT HAND FEED THE PUPPY, ONLY TREATS BY HAND THATS IT! Other wise they'll only eat by hand.

He is the right age to train, but how will he read all the library books?
Go to a dog training group and let him socialise with other dogs, a 5 week course will get you started. He will have fun and you will pick up many tips and some doggy owner friends!
Your dog needs to be sociable, to meet and greet other dogs, to come away with you and to follow your rules, if you want a good house dog.
If you want a working dog or gun dog, then you have to put in the hours for training. But most of us, want a good family pet so take the time to train them properly. look at the kennel club good citizen programme.

A well-trained dog makes everyone happy, including his owner. Take a little time training him, and you'll never regret it; you'll always have an obedient dog by your side. Find more https://tr.im/r0EO5
By their nature, dogs are pack animals with a well-defined social order. Through basic training, you need to consistently make sure your puppy understands that you are the leader, not him. So in teaching him the basic rules, you take on the role of pack leader.
To fit into the family circle, your dog must be taught to recognize his name and such commands as come, heel, lie down and sit.

You should look into Lab breed clubs in your area. This way you can take your dog to classes for a small fee. Usually breed clubs will charge you $80 to $150.(prices vary according to area) for an eight week class and then you will be invited to join the club for a nominal fee and you will be able to renew yearly. A breed club has many knowledgeable people that can help you with training and any problems that may come up

Go to your local library where there will be a wealth of excellent puppy training books. It depends on the actual training which you are looking for :) Books usually go through everything from bringing your pup home from his mother; keeping him company; housetraining; help with a shy pup; socialising your pup; lead training; recall; retrieve etc. Jan Fennell is a wonderful dog trainer, and she has published a book called "The Practical Dog Listener" ~ it is a book that I would recommend and wouldn't be without! Dr Bruce Fogle is a vet, and he has written a few interesting books on the subject of dog behaviour and training, and I have one called "The Dogs Mind" and another book called "Complete Dog Care Manual" which is written alongside the RSPCA. If you wanted to take your puppy along to a dog training class, then this is a good way of socialising him with other pups of his age. I have had dogs for most of my life, and I have a rescue dog now and I have always found that lots of love, care and patience are required in order to establish a good relationship with your dog. Oh, and also you must be firm! I would like to wish you lots of fun with your pup. Good luck.

Never shout at your pup, clicker training is a really good idea, but you have to click and give a reward within 1 second of his good behaviour, so timing is essential.
Enjoy your puppy.
