I have been a catholic my whole life, went to catholic school from pre-school all the way through high school. My grandparents prayed the rosary every night, and I dreaded it, although I admit it taught me discipline in my life. I went to church every Sunday like a normal person would.

Now that I'm an adult, I rarely go to church anymore. I just don't get that "spiritual" feeling when I go. The readings and homilies (sp) bore me.

I still have my own relationship with God, and I pray whenever I get the chance to. I find goodness in other things, like beautiful scenery, good-hearted people, etc.. I feel closer to him just driving around for an hour by myself, rather than going to church.

Is this wrong?

No, you're not wrong for doing this. It's good to think for yourself.

God loves you which is why he invites you to his banquet. Too many people make excuses to not go. Keep the Lords day Holy.
If your love for God is strong you would go. The Holy mass is very powerful. Jesus is truly present in the Eucharist. That sacrament is a powerful weapon against Satan. The readings are the words of God and the homily is the discussion of how it relates to todays living. Pray to the Holy Spirit to open your heart and hearing to receive his word and to dwell in your heart. Your disposition may be wrong in attending mass which prevents you from receiving the Grace made present. Instead of going out of obligation go for the love of God. Love is a decision! God love You.
PS- there is a reason you feel guilty. He's telling you something.

Perhaps you should try a different church. And try studying the Bible for yourself. The next time you're driving around, feeling close to God, stop and open up your Bible. You may get more out of it at that time than ever before. Couldn't hurt.
Other churches exist because of the feeling you have now - you're not alone.

I think you want more out of church then where you were going. If you are really worried about it find another type of church and also read the new testement so you know your on track. A Church can't save you. It is up to you to get to heaven the right way.

No, you should not feel guilty for not going to church. All church is there for is a place to be with others who share the same faith. If you believe in God, then you can be with him and worship him anywhere and anytime you please. It doesn't have to be in a church house. You can be driving home from work or a picnic with your family. He doesn't mind where you are as long as you praise Him in whatever you do, wherever it is you do it.

the purpose of going to church is to fellowship with other Christians and praise and worship God. If the Catholic church bores you, then try a non-denominational church, but go to church.

I don't think you should feel guilty. I am a Baptist and i do not attend church either. I was raised in church but me being an adult now, I just choose not to go. I am somewhat like you. I have a special relationship with my savior and if he is ok with it then its ok.

Going to church is a byproduct of your relationship with God. Also, we go to church not only to worship God but to encourage others. I am not saying it is wrong not to go, but I challenge your relationship with God. Also remember, the church is not a building but the people inside the building.

You are a child of God. You need to be fed. At Easter, at the absolute minimum, you need to go to Mass. You need to make a good confession and an act of contrition and you should do it soon.

Advent is a perfect time to start. Go on Sunday. Talk to your priest.

Don't feel guilty!! Just do it!!

You know it is. When your life really goes down the toilet, you will return and be so grateful that you are a Catholic who has some sort of recourse through our Blessed Mother.
