I was about to buy one, but then my wife panicked and said she thinks they're one of the most dangerous dogs to be around families and kids even if they would be kept outdoors. If true, any other suggestions? Thanks

buying one could be a huge mistake. they are very violent. and they may not be too you but they are to anyone that comes over. they're very unpredictable much like pitbulls and they don't behave like other dogs. if you kept it outdoors it may feel neglected and lash out at you

I own a rottweiler. This is the second Rottweiler I have owned. My first one was a male, and was dumped on me at his age of five years old. The longer I kept the dog, the more I saw that he had been abused. I had him nine months before he attacked my eight year old son. But I believe that was from the way he was treated before I got him. Two years ago I found a rottweiler puppy on a highway, and decided to take it home. I was very leary at keeping the dog. After all I went though with the last Rottweiler I had. But all the thought of the last one is gone now. It is all on how you raise your dog. Any dog can be mean and bite. But if you socialize the dog and give it plenty of love, you can have any kind of dog around your children. I would not change the fate I had that day that I found Rescue in the middle of the road. She is the biggest puppy I have out of the four dogs I own. So go ahead and get that Rottweiler, but be sure to give it alot of love, exercise, and socialize it. Don't keep it away from other people or it will be mean.

Not true. You do need to do your homework, though. Poorly bred Rotts can be awfully nasty. But, so can poorly bred Golden Retrievers. Frankly, I would be more concerned about a Cocker Spaniel around children than a Rottweiler. Talk to lots of Rott breeders to get an idea about their personalities. If there are ever dog shows around you, go and talk to anyone you see who has a Rott to find out about the dog's behavior.

If you do want a Rott, you might consider getting one from a rescue organization. The dogs are usually in foster homes, so you can get a lot of unbiased information about the dog's behavior. This way you can get a dog that you know has been around children and is great with them.

Rotts, pit bulls, German Shepard, Akita, mastiff, chows, doberman bull terriers, are all breeds thought to be dangerous. Yet Collies rate lower in temperament than any of the above breed. Most bite come from the warm and fuzzy breeds people carry around and think they are sooo cure. A well trained dog of any breed is good with a family. I own a pit bull that plays with kids, cats, ginnie pigs and a rabbit. The little mix breed I have is so aggressive we are going to put her up for adoption because we now have a baby. My sister raised a chow and a rott around her and my sisters small kids and never had any trouble. get your puppy raise it well and enjoy it
