I had three dukes, two Battle of Britain pilots, an international jewel thief, an opera Diva, a rum runner, four chorus girls who married millionaires (like father, like son) and half a dozen ne'er do well playboys who died while trying to drink champagne from the bottle while driving little red sports cars along the southern coast highway in France at 110 miles per hour.

Seriously, if you dig deep enough and don't expect anything spectacular, you'll find interesting facts.

Hey Crispy,

I suppose that is why some people keep doing it, because they discoved some real juicy stories.

Some of my living relatives told me stories about their Uncles that were not what the written documents say.

If you go back far enough, you will find a King, and a murderer (or 2 or 3). Trying to find them will keep you going.

I started tracing my family tree, after I got so far into the family, they wanted me to start paying. Sod that off. Most of mine were the mafia.

It happens. But at least they were honest folk. They all deserve to be remembered.

Even Nigella Lawson was descended from a crook. I found that most amusing, I don't think she did.

Jeremy Paxman was disgusted to find that one of his ancestors was a politician. He was far more proud of his struggling poverty stricken forebears.

I traced my family back to dancing circus freaks.
I did always wonder why my mum had a beard and we had a pet lion in our garden.

I have been tracing mine for a long time, and yes they are mainly run of the mill people, but they are MY run of the mill people and that is what makes it so exciting.

My Dad's doing it and he seems to think it's all very exciting!! Apparently some of my ancestors were bootmakers in Northampton. I'm from Exeter.

Mine are all really boring, but my husband's great great grandfather was a famous West Country pirate.
