There was a documentary on this topic recently.

It sensationalised a simple problem - which of course made it good for TV!

Men and women are allowed to pray in mosques throughout the country.

Lots of mosques are simple affairs - maybe just a two or three bedroom house purchased by a group of muslims and used to serve local muslims.

Many of these mosques are over crowded and for big celebrations there are concerns over safety. (Imagine fitting 200 people in your house!!)

For SOME of the occasions SOME of the mosque committees decided to admit men only.

This sounds harsh but muslims pray in single sex rooms. Their praying is done in close proximity. Hip to hip and shoulder to shoulder on their hands and knees for a lot of the time. If you are expecting 200+ visitors to your small mosque - who all need to pray at the same time, then a decision has to be made for safety.

I suppose it could have been to have a women only session - but have you been on any committees!

This is a simple issue but has been made into a big documentary to get good viewing figures.

Women pray in a lot of Mosques, (just look at all the men and women in Makkah) but some prefer to read at home as it is a lot faster and conveient, then they can get on with whatever needs to be done i.e shopping etc.

But I agree some Mosques don't and this is a particular school of thought which they don't have any real evidence for, did you watch Channel 4's "Women Only Jihad?"

Thats not a Islamic reason, because its been known as a fact that the wife of Umar Ibn Al Khataab use to go to the mosque all the time to pray.

So where do they go then? I thought they prayed seperate from the men (Muslim men obviously have trouble keeping their minds on the task in hand if a woman dressed as a dalek is knelt next to them) but in the same mosque.

Islam seems at women people as 'useful gem stones' of the society, that had to be secure adversarial to all evils. also a lady can't constanly make it to the mosque for each prayer at the same time as the calls are made b'cos of her common jobs, like having to shelter little ones at homestead and issues such. also, a lady at the same time as continually vacationing the mosque, are susceptible to be matters of slander, that ought to in the destiny reason a stir in husband spouse relation. So, at the same time as Islam helps lady to go back to the mosque, yet as a particular previlage commends praying at homestead on my own, for her own safe practices from evils. And adult men, in the experience that they make it to the mosque and connect contained in the congregation , they are rewarded 27 situations more advantageous than praying on my own. for a lady, that's an similar even if or not they do the prayers contained in the mosque with the girls people congregation or on my own at homestead. that's like operating from homestead to get a similar rewards as individual who has to move out to earn a similar rewards. So, what kind of a sane individual ought to favor to leave homestead to make rewards, at the same time as a similar rewards or extra (worrying for little ones brings in additional advantageous rewards) must be earned contained in the relief of operating at one's own disposition at homestead. humorous although that, how some gals themselves do not comprehend not something abt their ' real cost'

Well technically Muslim women are not encouraged to pray at mosques. That is a duty for muslim men. Women are encouraged to pray at their homes. So it's not just the UK, it's the whole muslim world.

Hey, you heard Poki...it doesnt happen in ALLLL of them, so no big deal right?

We all know the reason why of course. In Islam, woman have the status of property. The only technical exception is that they can get a divorce...but in reality that usually mean a divorce from breathing...cause Islamic community norms view the "protecting of honor" as a catch-all rule that allows murder. If the man is punished, its a mere slap on the hand.
