Okay for all you Vodka drinkers... Having worked and lived out in Eastern Europe (you know.. The old Soviet Union - Stalin an' all that)... that they always serve Vodka chilled or from the freezer... it comes out in a viscous state, is poured into a 50ml shot glass, tipped down ones neck and then a sip of (SOK) juice is taken straight afterwards... Trust me.. this does improve the taste of the Vodka... and that Vodka sorta translates from Russian as clean/empty/bright water (the word for water being voda) ,,, Question... How many of you actually tried it this way.. and if you haven't who's gonna try it this way now?

Quite correct that I forgot the slice of Salo & cucumber... salo being slices of salted pig fat (dried ish), a delicacy (!!! in Ukraine & Russia)... (and I hate cucumber with a passion and pig fat ... hmmmmm - nice - not!)... Also the common practice at a 'get together' (any reason for a pi*5 up) is one bottle of vodka per person and one for the table..

Depends on how poor the vodka is. A nice one, like Russian Standart, can be drunk with nothing after, and is quite passable at room temperature. Any of the thinner popular bar ones (Absoluut, Stoli, Smirnoff) are grim, so are good with something after. Your mates in Eastern Europe probably got into the habit drinking some very poor vodka. The majority of vodka was pretty grim back in the Communist era.

I have! It's wonderful. You must give the bottle one, good, hard, shake when coming out of the freezer.
Also, try vodka with a slice of rye or pumpernickel bread. Smell the aroma of the bread, shoot the vodka, and then take a small bite. It's a Ukrainian thing, I think... wonderful.
They also indulge in a pinch of white pepper in the vodka.
Wonderful.
Best wishes!

This is a great way of doing it as long as you have some seriously good vodka - never mind smirnoff, I mean the real stuff! Tastes fantastic this way - with cheap vodka you might as well be downing nail varnish remover!

If you have a premium, expensive vodka, use clear, small glasses, like test tubes and keep them in a bowl of ice because the other person is right, ICE COLD is best. Keep the bottle in the freezer, and NO, like all hard alcohol, it won't freeze.

Vodka is too Russian, that is too strong and gruff. Tequila is much better because it is more Mexican (stereotypically speaking on both Russians and Mexicans of course), that is smooth and seductive, and it is loud (though more on the nose than ears, although I do like to sing after some Tequila).
