Try spraying thethings she chews on with either bitter apple or pepper spray. Both tastes are something that the dog will not like and it will not harm her. You can find the bitter apple at any pet store and you can find the pepper (animal repellent) in the pest section of any hardware store.
Also, you might want to crate the dog while your not around. It works well for me and I have three Shih Tzus.

I had a dog like this and she had a biteing prob listen. Put her in a cage for 30min and dont let her out but put water in there just in case now. After 30min put her out side and she will go pee and then she will have a marking place. ok listen after that you need a doggie door cause she will go out side after she marked her bathroom place also if u go some were sometimes bring your dog ok she might be alone then if you dont bring her put her outside with food and water plus chew toys so like a few weeks later she will like the chew toys instead of the couch and trash also take her on some walks.

Hi,
I have a dachshund too. When I leave her, I leave the Weather Channel on. She likes hearing a human voice and hasn't destroyed the house once. If the weather is nice, I leave her outside. I can do this because I have a fenced yard. I have also purchased many chew toys for her and just before I leave the house I always talk to her and play with her.

he is nervous and bored. ive had this problem. be patient. be4 u leave everyday turn on the radio or tv so she doenst feel alone. Try to move the garbage to another location where she cant get ahold of it . Give her plenty of toys and things to do while ur away and if this doesnt work kconsider giving her a place to herself like a crate where she might feel safe and youll be happy. If not puppy sitters are always an option.

its not really the not being comfortable to being alone...its more the lack of exercise and that your dog is bored and tries to find things to do to spend the energy she has....
start by putting your dog in a crate while you are away...not only will you not have to worry because she wont make a mess but youll be sure that she is safe and wont get hurt....
go online to have a look at cesar millan videos...its extremelly helpful...
i just saw the message from the girl up there...and i just want to say....i know its for his/her good to leave the dog outside...so that they can play...but there are A LOT OF THEFT....so many people got their dog stolen from the garden...even when the owner is still in the house...someone even witness their dog being put in a car by someone....i used to leave my dog in my backyard often too...

One of two ways. Apply "bitteroot" to areas likely to be chewed. Best way to break the habit is to have a squeeze bottle or lemon or lime juice. Catch in the act and gently force squeeze the juice into the mouth. Have it handy for all occasions, but don't over react, just say no and squeeze, no need to scold any harsher.

Crate train.
More exercise.
A frozen stuffed kong.
Supervision (constant) when out of the crate.
This sounds like classic separation anxiety. It can usually be dealt with. Just realize there is no easy fix, no over night miracle.
Also, realize that digging is part of her nature. Thus, she digs your carpets. Get a child's sand box, fill with sand box sand, and fill with bones, treats, and toys so she has a place of her own to dig and exercise.
Good luck!

there is this stuff called bitter apple spray, you can get it at mast pet stores. it is non toxic and all you have to do is spray things with it for a while teach your dog not to chew on things. It works with my rabbits who chew on our molding. It just tastes really bad, and is cheap
