No! It's very hard for a young child to get their tongue around the word Grandma, nan is much easier! Nan is not a chav word, my mum is neither a chav nor common but she takes pride in the fact that she's a nan to my nephew. It will take your child a lot longer to call her Grandma, if she's happy with that then that's up to her...

I have no idea, in the US, very few people call their mom's mom - Nan, it's not that common. Most everyone says Grandma. The only people I have known to use Nan or Nana are caucasians or African-Americans.

I always called mine Grandma, I've never known anyone call theirs nan, it is a fairly lazy term to use though, I guess the association with chavs is due to it being a shortened name. I don't particularly like Granny either, it makes her sounds like a twee little old lady with a cat on her lap.

Absolutely correct.

Only chavs have Nans, and ultra chavs have Peshwari Nans (they're the ones with coconut and raisins in the middle).

People who really know about curries have chapatis instead.

I would have to say no!! I had two sets of grandparents (no surprises there) and to make thing easier for me and my sister we called one grandma and one nan, and I have to say my nan was by far the more upperclass. Congradulations by the way!

Grandma sounds good. I haven't heard people call their grandmother "grandma" for a long time. It's time we brought this word back into fashion.

Yes, it's just for chavs. Grandma sounds so much nicer, don't you think?
