That's a really good question. Most of us learn this through trial and error and sometimes the hard way. Trusting your gut instinct is probably as good of a way as any to determine whether a guy is a player, but sometimes it's difficult to accept and/or acknowledge this when we really like someone. The better player the guy is the less obvious it becomes--or else it wouldn't be referred to as 'playing'. And then there's something called the 'long con' where the game is to string the girl along for a longer period to accomplish whatever the guy's goal is. It's tough out there, isn't it? At least you're questioning things and that's more than alot of females are doing.

A lot of times you don't know until later. The players say what they know you wanna hear, and they are usually very friendly with other girls. They usually take advantage of the girls who think they are the greatest thing because the guy seems to like them, and these girls either haven't had that feeling before, and/or they just have low self esteem. Ask around, usually others know the guy and how he is with girls, someone who seems too into you too quickly is usually in it only to benefit him.
