extracting RAR files??????

Question

I do have a download of WINRAR but still i am not able to extract files and play it. When i click on extract here it asks for a password and then converts to a WMV file and later says CRC failed in the encrypted file.and maybe wrong password.which password shud i give.Any help.Thanks in advance.

it means that your file is encrypted and without the right password you will never be able to access those files.

People can brute the rar password very simple with the right tool.

Whoever created the rar file put a password on it. Chances are that if it is from a website that website lists the password somewhere on the page with the file. Perhaps you just didn't pay attention and missed the password. The CRC error indicates that it is the wrong password (it could also indicate corrupt archive though!).

Bottom line: If you know the password and it doesn't work it could mean 1. you have an incorrect password or 2. the archive is corrupt. If it is corrupt you will need to redownload it. If you don't know the password, you will need to find it. There is no way to open rar file without the password.

note: even if the password is incorrect, it will still show that it is extracting, and then give the CRC error.

Use Winrar, it says it's a 40 day trial but I've had it forever, I've never heard of it expiring. Also, if the extraction fails because of a corrupt .rar, try again and when you get the window for where to extract to, check the box that says "keep broken files". Sometimes this works and your files come out fine even though one of the .rar was corrupt.

that's a corrupt file. CRC is Cyclic Redundancy Check. You may want to re-download from another source.
