I have recently had blood in my stools. Not all the time, but enough to warrant a possible trip to the doctor.Sometimes the blood is bright red, sometimes darker. I also have intermittent pain in my sides.I had an ulcer some twenty years back.Could it be that again or do any of you have similar symptoms or know someone who has? Thanks for any help you can give me.

Bright red blood is usually a hemorrhoid. The darker it gets the further up the problem is and go to a doctor. He'll probably want a stool sample. Usually the dark stool can be serious. Don't wait. I have had both. It was looked at via scope. The one with the camera at the tip.

It could be several things. Bloody stools are a serious sign of a problem that shouldn't be ignored. The pain compounds that problem. Yes, I do know people who have had this, I've treated them, but it was caused by different problems. Go to Dr. now.

You might have a kidney infection. Bloody stools can be quite serious so to save you trouble later on, try to get into the docter ASAP. If that isn't possible. Go on into the emergency room. Good luck.
