A quick summary would be really helpful! Though obviously war is always complicated, I'd like to know the basics. (all I know is Israeli army vs. Palestinian army... and the Palastinians want independance, right?)

To be honest with you, I don't even think they know what's going on over there.

I must preface - i pray and wish for peace and that one day all can live in that area in peace - helping each other. i mean no disrespect to either side. just my observations. i am catholic (we have our own problems in ROME)
it all started a real long time ago when israelis and arabs were actually brothers that broke off into two tribes - idol worshipers and believers of god. but more recently when jews were given a homeland where they live today. at that point all arabs vowed to destroy the newly created state and expunge all jews blaming them for the woes and sorrows that they were experiencing pre - US/ oil industry aid. in addition - the arabs hate the fact that jews occupy a very holy part of world - Jerusalem.
basically - we are a messed up people - so lets blame the jews.
today's arabs probably cant even tell u why they hate jews other than it has been burned into their teachings for multi generations.
ignorance, lack of education, poverty among other things.
It only took the jews 10 years to cultivate a land that arabs could not do anything with til the israelis and usa helped them drill for oil.

it's all about religious war, even though the combatants are basically brothers and sisters.
israel is "the holy land" and the israelites think that they are special just because they believe in some very old storybooks that say so.
the palestinians want a place to call home as much as the jews once did. but the jews don't want to share and want all the land for themselves.
and if you're not jewish, you are an anti-semite.

it can't be simplified any more than that. however it can be expanded, but i'm not a history professor.

Until the 1940s, the population of the whole area was Palestinian. After WWII and the Holocaust, the western powers decided that the Jews deserved their own nation, and decided it should be in the "holy" lands, where some Jews descend from. They ignored that there were already people living there, and pushed them aside without a thought, making them refugees in their own land. These people considered the Jewish settlers as invaders, and Israel a colony of the west, a point that has a lot of validity. Some Palestinians have come come to accept Israel in hopes that Israel would stiop shooting their kids dead in the fields and stop taking their lands. But Israel never does, even after they promise to. The struggle continues.

I'm Muslim and i have nothing against the Jews, but I'm 100% against the Zionist state of Israel. before Israel was declared the Jews, Christians and Muslims lived together all over the middle east in peace. it wasn't until the migration of the European Jews (Zionists) who came from all over Europe and settled in Palestine which has been a British colony since the end of the first world war. when the Jews of Europe moved to Palestine they started their terrorist operations against the Native inhabitants of the Land and specifically the Muslims and Christians. they burned their houses, killed many and drove the rest out of their homes into the deserts. in 1948, the state of Israel was declared by the UN and the land was divided into two states, with the Jewish area consisting of roughly 55% of the land, and the Arab area roughly 45%. Jerusalem was planned to be an international region administered by the UN to avoid conflict over its status.

the Arabs knew that this is done by the British super power to put the Arabs in their place plus they felt that the land is being officially stolen therefore the 1948 war started which resulted in the defeat of the Arabs and Israel gained an additional 26% of the Mandate territory west of the Jordan River. Jordan, for its part, held the large mountainous areas of Judea and Samaria, which became known as the West Bank. Egypt took control of a small strip of land along the coast, which became known as the Gaza Strip.
Estimates of the final refugee count range from 400,000 to 900,000 with the official United Nations count at 711,000.The continuing conflict between Israel and the Arab world resulted in a lasting displacement that persists to this day.
Immigration of Holocaust survivors and Jewish refugees from Arab lands doubled Israel's population within a year of independence. Over the following years approximately 850,000 Sephardi and Mizrahi Jews fled or were expelled from surrounding Arab countries and Iran. Of these, about 600,000 settled in Israel; the remainder went to Europe and the Americas.

for those atrocities that happened in the past and still happening until now. I feel my rejection of the state of Israel is justified. and i understand how the Arabs feel.
but to be practical and look for peaceful solutions i came to agree that if Israel pulls out of ALL the occupied territories (1967 borders) i think there might be a chance for co-existence between Arabs and Jews. after all we do worship one God and from the same origin.

peace!

There is no such thing as a Palestinian. They are Arabs whose families are originally from other parts of the middle east. There has never been an independent Arab nation on that soil called Palestine. Basically, they didnt care one lick about that piece of dirt until the Jews moved back. Now suddenly it has been their national homeland since ancient times blah blah blah. A state was created for them years ago that people have forgotten for some reason. It was called Transjordan...today its called Jordan. People conveniently forget that little piece of history.

Dear brother

Nice Question

Look.......in 1897 a group of jews called themselves the zionists has held a meeting in switzerland, their aim was to establish a state for the jews from all around the world, using their power in the politics and economy and even media (like these days), they have principles like setting the world on fire creating wars between great nations so they can be the only benfitor from it.

So, they was about to choose Uganda as their home in 1917 but as the war was going in middle east and british troops under the leadership if general Alenby occupied Palestine the holy land of the three major religions, the jews in power in the UK saw it as a very good chance to take palestine.

and under the british authority in Palestine Jews began to massivly emmigrate to palestine as Mr Balfor in UK has promised them to give them a nation and state.

As jews stepped foot in palestine they started killing anything not jew they set eyes upon, from innocent palestinians to british troops(yes you read it right(BRITISH TROOPS))...the british troops that provided their security..

Then from 1917 to 1948 zionism grew greater and greater in the world and as a result a new jew state was declared in the middle east on the land of palestine.

in 1948 some arab countries tried to stop the formation of the so called jew state israel but they couldnt, they had retarded weapons and no strategic sense.

In 1956 now israel is a state well recognised by the world for its power in moving the global mass.

from 1917 till now, palestinians still fight for their lands, orchards, olive farms and wells.

Though the israeli power has been gigantically increased to be a brutal killing machine, this killing machine is maintained by the whole world's silence and the US tax payers.

No more words can describe whats going on!

No more words can describe the massacre occuring in Israel...

Just see for your self ..and do some research....

If a state can be declared by just claiming historical right...then Italy should claim UK for it has been occupied by the romans long time ago...

The palestinians doesnt refuse that christians and jews live on palestine with them, the palestinians are very friendly, but the just dont want to be exterminated from earth...they just want to live in peace!!!

the palestinians is like a resistant gone mad!they have tried every mean to get a setlement with israel but israle nver stops killing as if it is determined to annihilate palestinians...the palestinians has tried peace with israel from 1917 til now and it didnt work ...israel always kills and murders....so..they palestinias ...find nothing but to throw stones....fire some RPG shoot some israeli soldiers..

But there is some low IQ palestinians they do more damage to palestine than israel itself.....they do suicide bombs and stuff!!!

they are not clever....and that what israel ....always cries about....those dumb suicide bombers...rarely do the requested damage....the endup killing themsleves and hurting one or two israelis......

but...there must be a sloution.....resistance for independence is ok.....but not directed towards civilians....

What happens if you wake up tomorrow and find russian tanks at your doorstep along with russian civilians..occupying your land....

speaking with them is responsed with fire...talking is responsed with canons......so you grab a gun and shoot SOLDIERS...you are a resistant....

If you kill a CIVILIAN...then ahh ha...you are a terrorist!!.......

anyway....some people when they get really really beatn up like palestinians .....try to shoot civilians..

you must seek the truth your self....don just count on my words...

there's this piece of land about the size of a postage stamp that 2 groups of people have been fighting over for about 5,000 - 6,000 years now.

one group says that their god told them the piece of land was there's and the other group says that their god told them it was there's as well.

And whoever gave me a thumbs-down is a MORON. What I have just said is what really happened.
