Our wedding is in January and it's in the evening. I wanted to get the birdseed stuff so it could be thrown on us when we leave the church. But it'll be dark and it'll just be the outside church lights to illuminate it. Will it still work and look nice? I've only seen it done in the sunshine. Are there any other suggestions we could do?

Ask your church if you're allow to throw anything. Many no longer allow this because people slip and fall- it's like walking on tiny marbles. Rose petals might be ok, but again, you need to ask your church. Some don't allow anything to be thrown because no one picks it up and it makes a mess.

You may want to ask the church if they allow these items to be thrown before you get to excited about it. Many places do not want rice/confetti thrown anymore due to the clean up. It would be difficult to see this in the evening anyway. A lot of couples are now having little bottles of bubbles at the tables during the reception and people blow them in place of the rice/confetti. Majority of the times the adults have more fun with this then the kids that are there. No mess and people can keep the bottles as a souveniour. We were just recently at a wedding party that had these little bottles and the top had a bride and groom on it. The bride told my fiance that she had purchased these at a dollar store and got 6 pieces for a dollar. Have a nice January wedding and please do check and see if place you are getting married allows rice if you want it thrown.

Actually, my biggest fear with that situation would be reflection. Your pictures may come out with white dots from either the church lights or camera flashes. I think a test would be in order. Most churches will let you throw bird seed, but not rice and it’s a type of ‘at your own risk’ situation. I think bubbles or flower petals would be better. A nice bright color for the petals would be great for pictures.

Why not look into petals or paper confetti? I like the idea of birdseed, but at night it won't be as impressive or stand out as much as during the day.

Whatever you do, please don't choose rice! Uncooked rice expands in birds' stomachs, and causes alot of deaths because they eat too much. Some states even have laws against throwing rice at celebrations.

we had bubbles it was beutiful I've seen it in the dark and the light and it is really romantic in the night b/c the moon and stars and anyother lights reflect them. Plus rice can kill the birds and where ever you get married they don't want birds everywhere and they have to clean it up. Bubbles are just as cheap go to freeweddingclassifieds.com and you can find really cheap ones. I got $1000 bottles of bubbles for $20. Can't beat that! OH..congrats!

My cousin did bubbles at her wedding because it was at night and the church wanted to keep the place tidy. The lights reflected off the bubbles beautifully and there wasn't anything to pick up afterwards either. It was just gorgeous.

The rice would look nice regardless but it isnt my preference. I like the bubbles idea but Candles do it for me. Now a days you can do whatever you want at your wedding so as long as ur happy and you like it then its all gravy!

You should try theknot.com. They usually have pretty unique suggestions for everything. Enjoy and congrats!

Search for some glow in the dark covered rice.. or some of those fake little diamonds you can find in the bags in the store, that would be pretty in the night.

At our night wedding we had everyone hold sparklers and it looked amazing. Make sure they aren't too close to your dress though. Another alternative is bubbles those would look beautiful in dim light.

We did bubbles! They sell little bottles just for it. Looks great in the light at night!

We did it 10 years ago!

Congratulations!
