It is almost impossible to ban on cigarette by any government. As cigarette companies pay heavy amount as tax and excise so no government can loose this revenue source.
I do not agree that cigarette should be allowed in public places because smoking at public places force others to passive smoking.
The best way to stop smoking is aware people about harm full effects of consumption of tobacco in any form.

As a former smoker, I can honestly say I do not believe places like buses, planes, or other public access areas (government buildings etc) should allow smoking.

I get a little disgusted when they expand the meaning of "public places" to those that are actually "private". Like a restaurant, or a store - even a cigar store. A business owner should be able to cater to the clientele they wish to reach - even if they are smokers.

Personally, I wouldn't like to go to a restaurant that only catered to smokers, even when I smoked. That's why they have separate areas including separate ventilation.

If we allow the law to affect what we do in a "private" place such as MY restaurant, what is the next logical step? Modify my behavior in my next "private" place, my home?

And if they can regulate smoking, what is the next target? Drinking? Reading objectionable material? Reading the Bible or Koran? Sexual position?

Thinking?

Not the free country so many have fought and died for any more is it?

NO, NO, NO. It SHOULD NOT be allowed in public places. 2nd hand smoke is just as dangerous as smoking the cigarettes yourself. Why should smokers be allowed to infuse others with their poison against their will? Why should the owners of restaurants be able to decide to allow smoking? Why should their non-smoking customers be exposed? If a restaurant in my area decided to allow smoking I would refuse to eat there because even if they have non-smoking areas the smoke still drifts into there. It is a disgusting, smelly habit and I don't want to be exposed to it.

As a smoker I realize that my habit is irritating to some. I hate to admit that I agree with much of the smoking ban stuff, but I do think that the only way I am going to win the fight to quit smoking is with mega help. If it needs to be in the realms of social reform then I will cuss and kick a bunch but I really hate these damned things.

public, like.....outside? there's no problem with that. the smoke dissipates instantly. in a restaurant? well...since it's enclosed, i say it's up to the owner as well. i don't think we should get the law involved, as it has been happening. once again, taking away civil rights and freedoms in the name of popularity. what's next?

If smokers are ever allowed to smoke in public, every non-smoker should be able to take a needle and inject them with rat poison. Of course that would only be payback for how they are slowly killing us.

inside - up to the owner.

outside - as long as its not within 15 feet or so of an entrance its fine.

And obviously on your own property you should be able to do whatever you want.

As long as your actions are not directly hurting others, you should be allowed to do it.

All so called "Moral Laws" are BS.

I don't mind stepping outside and away from a crowd, but if I'm already battling the elements to have my one little smoke, leave me be!
