The American Cancer Society has addressed nearly all these concerns about various products including antiperspirants.

There is no conclusive scientific evidence linking deoderants to cancer.

The National Cancer Institute has also studied this rumor. They have not found anything conclusive, but there was one study that suggested that a preservative called paraben in deodorants, antiperspirants, cosmetic, food, and pharmaceutical products mimic estrogens in the body's cells. Because estrogens can promote the growth of cancer cells in the breast, the report warned that parabens may do the same. But the study did not prove that the paraben in deoderant caused breast cancer.

Basically, where this comes from is that aluminum, which is the main ingredient in most deodorants, has been found in small quantities in the tumors of breast cancer patients.

Apparently, they jury's still out on whether or not the aluminum is actually CONTRIBUTING to the tumor, or if it's just residue left in that area of the body form long-term deodorant use.

At any rate, I use Tom's of Maine, an aluminum-free alternative, which can be found at most major stores. If you're lucky enough to live by a natural grocery store, you'll probably be able to find all sorts of options there.

Yes, chemicals in some deodorants have been linked to cancer, likewise for hair colourants. Sorry I cannot remember the names of the chemicals concerned but I expect if you go to a Cancer website you will be able to discover this information for yourself. By the way, some years ago it was discovered that chewing gum can cause cancer of the stomach. Sorry!

deodorants are safer than anti-perspirants.
anti-perspirants clog the pores so you dont sweat, if you dont wash often, the pores can clog so bad it can cause a really bad infection, or sometimes worse.
deodorants allow you to sweat, but cover the odor.
