I have wavy thick hair too. I had it professionally straightened one time. I'm referring to a chemical straightener. It fried my hair! They left it in too long!. If you're talking about using a straightening iron or a curling iron, I find that using a large round barrell works best for me. It takes about 10-15 minutes to straighten my hair which is long (mid-way down my back.) My hair is healthier with a "straightening" iron than by using a straightener (chemical). Hope that helps.

You should go to a salon supplies store and get a straightener that has the ceramic coating and gets up to 400 degrees F...I haveteh "HAI" is very good. You also have to get sme hair straightening serum... the garnier fructis is a good cheap product that works great and smells great too...make sure you put the serum in first when ur hais is still wet then blow dry it till its practically dry or let it dry naturally..then use the straighteer

I recommend you go to a licensed hairdresser, because you want to be careful you do not damage your hair by making temperature on straightener too hot because your hair is so thick.

HI The best straightner I have to say is the chi flat iron. Check this out. I show how to use it with pics. My friend has really curly hair and it works! LOOk...
