Most often the excuses that are acceptable are the following:
1-You have previous knowledge of the case and it would have influence on your decision
2-You have had an experience that would make it impossible to be open minded
3-It would be a hardship for you to be away from your family.
I was on Federal Jury Duty and these were the excuses I heard others say.
The judge released all but one, who stated that she was unemployed and was actively seeking employment and that being on the case would hinder her.

There are different rules in different states, and Federal courts have different rules as well. The only sure-fire excuse I know of for getting out of jury duty is working for some type of law enforcement agency -- you can't be a juror if you work in law enforcement. Above and beyond that, you'd have to write to the clerk of the court and request excusal. Most court clerks are very reasonable as long as you have a good reason like communicable illness, physical disability or injury that limits your mobility, women in their third trimester of pregnancy, military personnel that are about to deploy overseas, scheduled vacation where the plane tickets are bought and paid for, lawyers or paralegals that have a background in criminal law; stuff like that.

i'm not from TX, yet i ought to assume you in simple terms mail the ingredient in. i'm kind of perplexed, the position ever i'm getting jury responsibility, i'm getting the snail mail like 3 months earlier the court docket date. you may favor to deliver it qualified mail, that way you've a paper path. I have under no circumstances had an excuse to get out of Jury responsibility, at the same time as i turned right into a student, I were given it in the course of the summer season, such is my success.

Some people get out of jury duty if they grew up with ADD or ADHD and have difficulty concentrating and remembering. If you're depressed and have difficulty with your memory also, they don't want you on a jury.
Narcolepsy (involuntarily falling asleep) is another excuse but they'd probably want you to prove it. If you are self-employed and have no one to take over for you, you might convince them to cut you loose.
I've heard of people who get epilepsy or asthma attacks are not kept for duty. If you have a bladder or kidney infection and have to go to the bathroom every half hour, you might get out of it.

if you have to ask you don't qualify.
go serve on a jury. all they do is make you wait around untill they've filled all the selection pannels. you have a better than 80% chance of getting out of there by noon.
if not, your boss is federally obligated to give you the time off and all you do is eat free food and register your opinion. its like the internet only more consequesial.

in my county the only reason is if you can't hear other wise if you get summoned you gonna serve. now if you have committed a felony you will not be considered or if you are not a citizen of this country the first two answers will get you charged for contempt of court and they are very quick to tell you where a sitter is and a place to get the sick taken care of. That judge has heard them all and believe me they know how to deal with them too.

Not having a sitter to watch your children, caring for a sick family member. Did you know that because they don't send these certified mail that they really don't have any proof you received it, therefore, how can you get in trouble for not showing?
