"Most canines will, from time to time, suffer from excess methane discharges. There are several ways to handle such exhaust problems.
1. Give the dog activated charcoal tablets, which will absorb the excess gas.[Go to the vet, or a store like Petco, for product.]
2. Overeating can cause gas, so try serving smaller portions in more feedings.
3. Dogs who eat too fast may swallow too much air. Ration their food more slowly or, if you have other dogs, allow them to eat in seperate areas. Canines who eat in groups tend to bolt their food so others can't steal it.
4. Stop providing fatty, hard-to-digest table scraps and snacks.
5. Try elevated dog dishes, like those used for large breeds, to help prevent gas buildup.
6. Ask vet for correct dosage on Gas-X. You may need to adjust the dog's intake."

If I remember correctly you do not want to use GasX, I think that a local vet would be a good choice to ask this question. I believe that the dog can ingest small amounts of charcoal purchased for human consumption at a pharmacy to help in this manner. Contact a local 4H group that deals with dogs as a second resort.

Flatulence, it can be a problem in some dogs. What causes it? Flatulence is caused when bacteria in the digestive tract break down food items producing gas. This may be very disruptive and disturbing to you, but it is rarely a serious health problem for the dog. It is true that some breeds are more prone to flatulence, but all dogs can suffer from it, or should I say all owners can suffer from smelling their dogs :)

What can you do about it? Read some suggestions here:

Many pets suffer from gas. He should be checked for worms. If that proves negative, try changing his diet. Cut back on the amount of can food as it may be contributing to the gas problem.

Change her food until you find one that agrees with her. "A very good food" doesn't tell anyone much.
