Are some laws such as the seatbelt law created for the purpose of making money? Also; I live near a city where everyone must shovel snow from their sidewalk or else; face a fine! Well the problem is: not everyone is able to shovel their sidewalks! And not only that, The sidewalk does not belong to the individual! It is government property! So sense its government property, why can't they shovel their own sidewalks? This is not directed to law enforcement sense they don't make the laws; they inforce them! But some of the laws are what I would consider rediculous! Like the smoking ban! You can actually be fined for smoking a cigarette in a building!

Keep in mind laws are written by lawyers who also make up 95% at least of any governing body. Lawyers will always throw an angle to make money but revenues are also directed towards the actual law itself. It costs a ton of money to draft a new law and usually takes a few years. In Texas we still have a law on the books that says you cannot leave a horse tied up in front of a saloon overnight. Not all make sense........So to answer your question Yes, and No.

Yes, but not all laws are constitutional. When someone finally gets mad enough to sue over the sidewalk shoveling, then change can occur. It sounds like you are really more interested in private property rights by the tone of your question. Organizations like the Institute for Justice (ij.org) sue governments over issues like that. Check them out.

Laws are created in response to perceived problems.

Seatbelt laws were created to cut down on the death and injury rates from automobile accidents. Smoking bans were created to protect the people who do not want to breathe secondhand smoke. And I would expect that the sidewalk sweeping requirement was ment to keep the sidewalks clear so people would not have to walk in the street.

It is not just a revenue raising exercise.

The seatbelt law was legislated to make people safer in their own cars.

The sidewalk law is to prevent people from falling and injuring themselves. The government can be sued for compensation and would probably pass that on to you.

You can smoke outside; the government can and has been sued for compensation for people becoming ill from passive smoking.

there are many laws, in general, they serve purpose to creating order and decent living society..

however, there are laws passed trough by corporation lobbyies which alllov companies to have much greater right then individuals. For example, companies can start court action against other governments.. and win! these are dangerous.

laws which are designed to make money are taxes. the question realy should be asked, if these money are being spent well.

what you describe as silly law, makes perfect sense, if someone wants to smoke, fine, but why should he poison air of others. and yes, he is causing others ill by them inhaling his smoke.

The goverment has gotten greedy, somtimes I wish the laws were more like they were during the early years of the country.

Lots and lots of them. In Mexico there are some taxes meant to pay for things that have been paid for for decades. But, it is far better to keep on collecting the money rather than cancel that law.
