For 22 years Thaiways magazine and maps have been widely accepted as the most reliable tourist publications in Thailand, as is evidenced by the fact that when President Clinton and Queen Elizabeth II visited Thailand separately in 1996, the US and the British Embassies requested us for free copies to be distributed among the members of their entourages. Several other foreign embassies did likewise when leaders from their countries made state or official visits to Thailand.

Thailand is so big my dear but I've been to Bangkok for 5 days 4 night.
* Do avoid those dark and back lane.
* I would suggest you take taxi rather then Tut-Tut.
* In day time, if some Tut-Tut driver approach you to bring to some place of interest at about 100bhat I think, you can consider saying no. They will bring you to such a boring place to see antiques, gems etc where in return if they manage to bring you all the COMPLETE 5 - 6 places, they will get free petrol/diesel. I remember not wanting to to 2 more places but he insist on finishing the 2 places.
Though I agree that Thai ppl are extremely friendly towards tourists, I just find those Tut-Tut driver are abit rough, giving a high fare and asking you like a hooligan.
* If you don't have a good stomach, don't try cart-shop spicy
food. Do dine at your hotel or cheap restaurant.
Place not to miss:
1) Chatuchak (Open on Sat & Sun). It's a flea market where I heard you can find everything.
2) MaBoonKong (MBK Shopping Ctr). It's big and you should explore the whole place.
3) Patpong - It's a mini flea market and surrounded by night clubs with sex show. Please note, though it's free entry & no cover charge, when you are in there, you have to buy a drink and almost each sex stint the performers does, they will come to you to ask for "tips".
4) Floating market
5) Zoo.
But overall, it's a nice place. So smile and greet them when you are there.

It depends on where you are going in Thailand? Stay out of the southern provinces near Malaysia. There is still problems with the Muslims there.
In Bangkok, stay away from any dark streets and eating from the cart vendors depending on the strength of your stomach. It is really stuff that you would do in a big city. Stay in a group and have fun.
In Pattaya or Phuket it is basically the same as Bangkok.
Check www.thaiwebsites.com for various travel sites in Thailand.
Check out "clubs" in www.bangkoktonight.com for nice places and there are also "tips" area you might read. Though this sites is directed to men mostly. Also in "Links" you can check out Pattaya and Phuket.
One site for Pattaya is www.a2zpattaya.com, it's very good.
Good luck and have a good trip.

Stay away from the 3 provinces in the deep south as the muslim unrest that has caused lots of innocent people to get killed. Everywhere else is pretty safe as long as you use common sense. For what to see and do, www.visualthailand.com has 1000's free current photos and places to see and do. This is the best website to get all your info in one place. Read the story on the 3 main scams to watch out for. Have a nice trip, the weather here is beautiful this time of year

40% of visitors to Thailand are women, according to the WTO, higher than other Asian countries like Malaysia or India. All incidents of sexual harassment are less common than in other Asian countries.
There is an active sex trade, girly bars and prostitution, same as in all countries. The areas to avoid are pretty obvious for any sensible person. Bangkok and Pattaya are the obvious targets for men searching for women. There is safety in numbers, so sensible advice is found on the FCO website and from the Thai Tourist police.
There is still concern about terrorism in the southern penninsula, but tourists are not specifically targtted. If you visit the coastal areas, follow the guidance about Tsunami's which are very well displayed.
Check out your hotel and make sure your room has a good lock and that you can have passport and valuables in a secure safe.
You need to look out for pickockets and scams from taxi drivers and people who offer to show you cheap deals on gems and diamonds, nearly always fake!
You will be charmed by the friendliness and warmth of most Thai's and it is genuine, but knowing a few good phrases and looking like you are not fresh of the plane helps! Get meter taxis rather than expensive booked fares. From BKK airport into the city will be about 200bht into Siam Square on a meter taxi (£4.60) and not the 800 bht I was charged!
Bangkok is busy, noisy and has lots to see, Chiang Mai is historic but has floods currently. My favourite is Isan province to the North east, goodfor silk and handicrafts not a tourist place and near to the Lao border if you want an excursion into a former french colonyfor very cheap silver products and french food.
I married a Lao woman so was there last month. Go by overnight bus or get cheap internal flights. Be prepared to ask for discount, from hotel prices to street corner noodle vendor, all will be impressed if you know some Thai or Isan phrases. I can let you have email address for some reputable tour guides and friends in Thailand. Cost of living is cheap for hotels, food, drinks and excursions, but it is still worth shopping around. The military coup has made very little difference to most Thai's.
Thais love their Royal family and Buddist monks are respected. Thais are very family orientated and typically are quite modest in public so you should feel quite safe, but ordinary sensible precautions for foreign travel is best. Do not accept drugs and be carefull of fullmoon parties !
I have never been ill from traveller tum, while in Thailand or on my return. Enjoy it !!

Hi,
Tell them to just have fun, it's a really safe place for women, the people are very gentle and sweet, don't shout at them or get angry they just don't understand that kind of reaction. Try to speak a few words in Thai and they'll love you. Do use public transport it's cheap and safe especially the skytrain in Bangkok. Beware of the tuk-tuk drivers they will try to con you into taking rides around town and you'll end up at one of their friends shops and they are working on commission, also if they tell you that the temples are closed and they'll take you somewhere else its a con just ignore them, they only want your money.

I wouldnt spend more than 2 days in Bangkok. If your friends like fish I would head to the Beaches except Pattaya. Only because there are many more nice beaches. If you like riding elephants and treks I would go to Chiang mai in the north

A girlfriend of mine went to Thailand a couple years ago, and she said it was the friendliest country she visited. She said they loved her light skin and would touch her face in admiration. She had a blast there.
