For a less expensive option, plan lunch at the Pier 7 restaurant in the Channel Inn on the waterfront in Southwest DC. The food is good and reasonable and you can add a DJ and still make it affordable for most employees.

At our office, we have a game people call a Yankee gift exchange. Each person who wants to participate brings a wrapped gift, worth, say, $15-$20.
Say 40 of you parcipate. Write the numbers 1-40 on 40 slips of paper and put them in a hat and have each person draw a number.

The person with #1 chooses a gift and opens it and shows it to everyone.
Then #2 can either take #1's gift or open a new one. If he takes #1's gift, then #1 opens a new one.
Etc.. until all gifts are open.
THe only rule. During one "round", a gift can only be "stolen" once. This keeps the length of the game finite.

Pot luck is always good at office parties. It makes it a shared thing. Sometimes party games are good, if people are into that. Ever seen "Whose line is it anyway?" There are fun ideas about party games there, like "Questions only", where you have to have a conversation with someone but only asking questions. Singing is good, if you like that sort of thing. Like old camp songs from when you were kids; then people start telling funny stories from when they were little, and that's fun sometimes.

we are planning to do a wine tasting "scoring" sport. everyone attending will carry their widespread bottle of wine and it is going to likely be placed in an ornamental sack that hides that kind yet is numbered. everyone receives score playing cards numbered a million to three with a million being undesirable, 2 being ok and three being reliable. everyone receives a style of that wine and ought to score it. A tally sheet is saved and the wine that wins the optimal rankings win. we can probable have 3 - 5 prizes, reckoning on the large style attending and the guy that presented that distinct wine often is the recipient of the prize. Prizes will be present playing cards or present baskets. The foodstuff we could have will bypass with the wine: Cheese tray with crackers, sandwich wraps, a veggie tray, some kind of dessert (no longer sensible yet something sweet), and peanuts, of direction.
